INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Jchny2000, could you possibly assist with transportation of a buff Orp pullet if I requested one from JSummers? I'll b t my campsite at Whitewater late Thursday evening. So could meet u t exchange cash for bird on Friday if you'd like. That way u aren't left responsible for her. I am also going t try t squeeze in a canopy , it has a couple small tears but would b better than nothing, if it fits I'll bring it.

I want to thank everyone for all the well wishes, prayers and thoughts, they are very much appreciated. I have had some personally issues going on for a while and pretty much had a major melt down over the weekend. But after a considerable amount of crying, talking, and praying I am, not great, but better now. My BF has convinced me that at least right now getting rid of my chickens is not the best option, so for now, anyways, we will be keeping them. Again, thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Jeesh maybe I should just pack up my trailer and move there...lol!
Hey, that's an idea! You really ought to get two Buffs so they each have a buddy.

That is wonderful news!!! You've been such a great help with Chickenfest. Chickens are good therapy as we've discussed on this thread before. It will be nice for you and your BF to get away and have some fun!

What a doll, good idea to shave him!
Went to the county fair a few days ago and loved seeing all the chickens, especially the polish and silkies.

Would love to get some polish, bantam cochins and mille fleurs to add to our flock one day.

I threw a bread stick into the chicken run yesterday. At lunch today, I went to collect the eggs and noticed my stubbornly broody hen had taken the bread stick from the run and rolled it into the coop and is now sitting on it.

Life is never dull when you have chickens. :)

LOL! I have a hen trying to hatch a rock, they always surprise me!
Okay...look at these 2 reds from the hatchery...Pullet or Roo?

#1, is the saddle feathers pointy, or rounded?

Quote: So exciting! I would be so nervous.

Quote: yes, agreed

Well my kids got stomped in there goat show today!! We kinda knew it would be like that this year being first timers. They have learned a ton and have truly enjoyed it. They both want to stick with poultry and my son is talking about breeding his own show birds. My wife and I are doing our community work by staying in the goat barn on night watch!!! There is about 250/300 head of different breeds in here with us. I will just say " if you can only imagine" what we have in store for us tonight. Lol it should be fun!
I would enjoy that very much, so many breeds to see and meet. Envious!

I have broad breasted turkeys jchny2000 and I believe a hen could get pretty nasty. We have a tom and a hen. The are way over slaughter age (a year and a half old)'and pets at this point. Bob is limping around and she is pretty big as well. I wish they were heritage it will b hard on our family when they pass. While I enjoy my chickens, I feel the turkeys are more personable. My hen loves being petted and they respond when you call them by name. Darn birds have me wrapped! I have been researching geese, you raise them right? Are they pretty personable? And are they mean? My aunt had some and all I remember is being chased by them.
Geese are my favorite bird and my pets. You have to teach them, just like a dog. They are loving, attentive, and very protective of the other birds. If I had to choose one species, the geese stay. I would really struggle with giving up my bourbon red turkeys tho, they are right up there with my geese, love the breed too.

You betcha. Just send her a pm, and I can pick up the hen before I leave.
