INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Awe....sorry so many of u aren't going t b here today! We'll have a blast I'm sure. Our bellies and wish lists (and some of us our cars) will be full after a day meeting great people! I'm glad I made the trip! This park is really nice I've met the most amazing people here! Five spaces down from me there's a wonderful couple who have somewhere around 100 chickens! We talked yesterday evening for an hour or so. She knows Brad, and a few others on here...her name is Barb S. Lol. Looking forward t this afternoon! It's a little wet here but not going t let a little shower spoil my day...I'll just bring my soap and a towel! (Oh my...lol...that would give people something t talk about!!!) hehehe. Have a great day and travel safe peeps! : D

If anyone up in the northern part of the state is looking for blueberries, the Blueberry Ranch in Mishawaka has organic blueberries that are super yummy! I had my husband pick up 7 10 lb. boxes for the freezer/jam/fresh eating. The prepicked variety right now is blue crop. They are really big and very nice -- hardly a bad one in the box. I gave up trying to get done with freezing them at 3:00am, so now I'm getting ready to get back at it. 4 boxes to go! u-pick is $2.15/lb, prepicked is $29 for 10 lb box.

My daughter and I went picking on Wednesday and I'm going to get some pre-picked too. We actually have eaten almost all of the ones I picked fresh...and that was 2 buckets (probably about 20 lbs...)

I hear the "Nelson" variety is really good. Someone told me they don't allow folks to pick the Nelsons and that they are only available for a really short time frozen as they sell out quickly.

I don't know about the varieties...the only one I know about is the Nelson that these folks told me about.

Oh..
And you can sign up for their email list and they'll let you know what they're picking when they move from one variety to the next.

We went and had a great time. There was a lot of food. No one left hungry by any means. It was a great set up too, lots of shade, a hill for toddlers to roll down on, a dirt mound for all kinds of imaginative play, a playground with swings and a slide, just about a dream land for my children. Then Chickadee the doggy really made my children's day. My boy thought it was grand that she would sit when he said sit. And the 3 small rubber chicken toys were just perfect for tossing and stretching. Not to forget the barnyard tunes all about chickens, my youngest was fascinated by the boom box.
Meeting all of the chicken people was great fun too.

Didn't even take th phone out of th car! We had a fabulous time! Was a lot of work but very well worth it! BarbS took pics as did a couple others. Mother2Hens went above and beyond for the door prizes, decorations, and kids toys n games. Thank you so MUCH! I won a solar powered chicken shaped light. Love it!!! There was SOooo much food!!! If anybody went home hungry, you didn't eat like I did! Lmbo. Thank you Brad, Racin, and Janet for bringing me my new additions! I love em!!! Named a couple already. Will post pics later for those of you who weren't here, so you can meet my new flock members. Of course Brad the enabler (lmbo) twisted my arm and I have TWO mating pairs of those beautiful Silkies! Jk Brad. If you weren't there you missed a great time and buffet fit for the Royal family, and their entire army! Thanks again everyone for the fabulous day and all the great advice and info I gleaned fr you!

Sounds like it was a great time!

On today's list of simple pleasures: letting the chickens out into the run this morning and hearing Fred, our Golden Polish cockerel, crowing good morning. I think he's enjoying being the only male in our flock now. He spent the whole day crowing off and on and he's becoming quite protective of the hens. We live out in the country so no one is going to be too upset to hear crowing. It makes me smile every time I hear him. :)

My beautiful wife, and two children helped me build another nesting coop inside my barn today. Start to finish (including cleaning the floor area) 4 hours. This coop is for cricket and his girls to roost in. They are free range so is come and go as they please. The coop is 10' long x 4' deep and 6' high. Has an osb roof. It's not hardware cloth but 6' welded wire fence. The coop turned out to be very strong and secure. The fence also is ran on the back wall. Fun little project and thanks to kabhyper1 for the idea.
