I thought I would update you on the kitten. She is a favorite around here. Likes to chase grasshoppers and other larger flying bugs like moths. She stole some of the processing scraps yesterday morning and was growling and protecting them like a pro. So far she is showing great signs of a mousing cat. If the other kittens are placed yet, I have the space for that little one. In fact I probably could find homes for all of them as several of my chicken buyers have offered to buy the kitten I have (Katie). But the little one, was so cute she would be mine, might even end up in the house with vet visits and all.
They are adorable. I'm glad they all found good homes. Ours was sitting on our goat last night but I did not get to the camera in time. The goat was not thrilled about the cat being on its back.

Our little Katie is already outside most of the time. She comes into eat, while the adult barn cats get a small morning snack. Then she likes to sneak in a couple more times each day. But so far, she prefers the outside. She even sleeps in the duck run with the ducks.
Congrats... ya may need a bigger egg basket... lolHey everybody! I haven't had much time to be on here lately. Just checking in. We found out today we are inheriting my mother in laws flock of 12. So that will make 35 lf ; 33 hens and 2 roos, 9 bantam non silkies ; 2 roos and 7 girls, 22 silkies, and 3 ducks. Whew.....we are going to have eggs everywhere!![]()

If you buy it now you would have to try it out now... lolSo where as everyone purchased their sportsman incubators? And which one did you get? I'm debating between the 1500 and the 1502. I'm not looking at price, but it like the idea of more room in the incubator to candle eggs. On the other hand, incase I need to hatch in the incubator, I'd be glad I got the 1502. I'm just doing research now (actually trying my hardest to not cave and buy one now and wait till late winter/early spring).
Nice job, the kids look happy too. Finally got all our chickens to our new home. Painted the new coop last night, it rained and washed a little area away. No big deal will touch up later. Built a roost lastnight may build a second one today. They need it. Just set the temp run up for them and they love to be outside. I'll have to put the nesting box in today! But here is a couple pics
Still need to paint trim also
I'm finding feathers every place ... but they are still laying and no bald spots so IDK???Anyone else have a molting flock already? My girls are losing feathers left and right and are moody as all get out as a result! I'm having to break up squabbles all over the place! Luckily, for the most part, they're just looking scruffy. My Fayoumi, Marama, is about bare, though. I'm just glad she's doing this now instead of later on!
Since I'm here, here's some of the rest of the flock.Betty looking scruffy:![]()
Debra Jo with her evil eye:
Poggy, my Speckled Sussex. She and her sister are so loud when they're in the nest!
Red sexlink, Skua. She always looks so surprised when I take her picture.![]()
Exchequer Leghorn, Roha! She's not doing anything suspicious!
My Dorking twins, Kit-Kit and Elda! They're waiting for cuddles.![]()
Violet the Bielefelder. This is probably as close as I've gotten to capturing her colors in a picture. She's so pretty!
Louise the dainty Black Copper Marans and her pretty eyes![]()
Welsummer Mabel standing in the new pop door. I now have a more permanent chick yard that's against the fence for the big girl yard, and this pop door leads from the little yard into the coop via the addition we built last year.
Here's the new pop door from the outside. Avert your eyes if you don't like messy painting.![]()
And the other project mom and I got done in the past few weeks, the new nests!![]()
Next project is the duck coop.Speaking of, I don't know if I mentioned it here or not, but I've got 5 quitters and only one viable embryo out of my 18 call duck eggs.
Looks like I'll be shopping for more ducks in the future.![]()
cute kids all 4 of them.. lol
Sounds like that would be a cute pic... hint hintOur little Katie is already outside most of the time. She comes into eat, while the adult barn cats get a small morning snack. I'm thinking of selling a few of my full size khaki ducks. I have not fully decided yet but if you are interested, let me know....
