INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

With their eyes, Silly!

I really haven't had an issue with them not being able to see. I got the question a lot when I kept my Bouvier's (dog) coat according to breed standard. Believe me, she had no issues seeing.
See, that's what I mean. I used to have hair like that, and I couldn't see a thing. Always walking into walls and doors and such.

Thanks to the enabling of @atrueb00
  • my wish list for next year is less 1 breed. Thanks for the hook up!!!

  • We picked up 13 MF's and 1 Red Bel??? something I forgot what he called her. will look it up tomorrow, will also get pic's tomorrow as it was too late by the time we got them settled into their new temp. iso. home.
  • Will have to do some catching up too I see. lol
  • Just to let ya know DH gave me no grief after he saw them. He thinks they are the coolest of cool, except LF Cochin's of course... lol I have 3 8 eek old Roo's of this bunch that will have to be rehomed so far and we are hoping that those are the only Roo's we get. We are keeping mom Dad and whatever other hen we end up with.
I left my glasses in the truck and am too lazy to go out and get them so I will probably lol when I see what my spelling looks like tomorrow... lol

I don't know why bantams bother me.  I think I'm afraid of them.  They always look like they want to bite someone.

I do have a silkie question - and I know I could look this up, but I'm really tired - How do they see?

As long as they are close to standard, their crests will stand up a bit and allow them to see. Unfortunately a large crest doesn't necessarily mean standard and will fall over the eyes, and require taping up or trimming.

Seven is pretty close to standard, so you can see her eyes.
Fromhere she looks like she can't see...

But from her level, she can...

Btw, I have no idea how you could find this scary.

I guess I must have.  There place was half empty; maybe they'd already gone home?

BTW, your white rock is lovely!  Congratulations!

No they were there. Thanks.

There were definitely silkies there on Wednesday.  They were in the bantams section, mostly in a single row, nearest the 'front' of the barn (where the office was located).

Yep.

OOOOHHhhhhhhhh.  I didn't expect them to be with the bantams.  I thought silkies were LF.

Tiny chickens give me the willies.  I'm not kidding.  I couldn't walk the bantam isle without squealing like a little girl, and I'm too old and fat for that to be cute.

Silkies are bantams. And insert laughing icon (on my phone so I can't)

Not a problem! Hopefully it takes off. We need one for NE Indiana!

Agreed! I have yet to get on it. I have been busy. I have drove to Indy 3 days and back 2 of the days and I can't say I am tire if the drive yet lol

And if anyone is interested I have some chickens available.
Pair of bielefelders (3-4months old)
Splash blrw cockerel (4months old)
White silkie cockerel (6 months old)
Blue/silver leakage silkie cockerel (5-6months old)
3 Marans/rock chicks (2-3 weeks old)
1 Birchen Marans or Marans mix chick (2-3weeks old)
Good number of Marans/Marans mixes chicks (day olds)
Naked neck chicks (day old)

Let me know if you are interested in anything

Man I didn't know you had naked neck chicks lol

Huffington Post has a great article called We Just Found Your New Pet: It's a Chicken. And it features all images of silkies! This is so neat that people are getting into chickens, especially silkies.

Is that the abominable snowman chicken?

Thanks! I finished off the corn yesterday and got a final count of 202 ears! So happy!
Our last of it was 45 ears of Candy Corn. It was big and beautiful!

I am soooo jealous! Our corn didn't do anything & I'm ready to go out and mow it all down. grrrrrr!

Would anyone be interested in 2 bantam ee hens? They are about a year and a half old. I don't have a rooster to go with them and I need the run space. I am asking 30 for the pair of them. If interested, send me a message. I need to rehome them soon. They both lay egg colored eggs.

Loved the article, very cute!

The fair was fun today! I really liked getting to look at the chickens now that I know a little more about the breeds. I wish there had been more breeds represented. I really wanted to see a silkie in person. But there were several Wyandottes, and I think I'm in love. There was another breed I was hoping to see, but its escaping me now. Well anyway, it was fun! I can't wait till the demolition derby! :-D
Wyandottes are excellent dual purpose. Very good free rangers too. I have a mean GLW roo, but he is excellent taking care of his ladies. Gus, my SLW is also a great roo, and not aggressive with me at all. He seems to have more an eye for the EE hens tho!
