I'm thinking it tested for MG as well. My flock came back nice and clean for all the stuff they tested for when I did the nest. I think I'll redo the test in November just to make sure all is still well. Opening the results is a bit stressful though.

I am so hoping that this isn't MG/CRD (they are the same thing the same way HIV/AIDS are. One is the agent, the other is the resulting syndrome caused by the agent). 

There are so many things about this case that I find horrifying. The man who traded this hen knew she was dying and still thought she was a fitting trade for three drakes (I had one female duck at the time, and they were raping her into the ground so I had to find them new homes or I wouldn't have even thought about this trade). He brought his prepubescent son with him, and I can't even fathom what makes a parent think that this would be okay. He is teaching his son to cheat people, to take advantage of hapless newbies in the trade, and he is making his son party to these practices and thereby endorsing them. After all the care I gave these animals--my birds are pets! I brought them into my house to treat them and care for them when they were injured. They were all tame and healthy, and the whole reason I was talked into them was because they could provide some necessary therapy for my children. But the hen he gave me died right in front of my children, right after the loss of their favorite hen who was mauled by an unknown animal only days before.

I use pallet to build a lot of stuff too. My da used to own a pallet business so I hve a lot at my disposal. They come in handy in many projects and are very cost efficient!

Yep, quarantine saved my whole flock. You should always quarientene for a month.

No it does not. NPIP tests for pt. Pullorum typhoid. I believe the only way to be 100% sure is a neurotopsy, but that egg kit test might test for it-though I don't think so

Blonde moment. It absolutely DOES test for mg. Now I can't tell you if it is the same as CRD or not

I'll have to keep this link in mind. I get very paranoid about every little symptom in my flock (if @Hensteeth reads this, she will absolutely agree ), so I might just go ahead and try this. Although I think I would be more afraid to open the envelope than I anything! Yikes!

I had what started out as a very sweet moment in the coop this afternoon. There was a tussle over the top nest box (there are usually 3 on top, but I need to hose a couple out, so there was only one today) and finally, my super-meek Ancona, Rangi laid claim to it while the two other hens fighting for it, Maggie and Marama, were distracted by each other. Rangi started to nest when my golden Sebright, Rosie, flew up and stood at the opening of the nest. I was cleaning the coop at the time and not paying much attention to them, but I noticed a small sound, and turned around to see that Rosie was looking into the nest that Rangi was sitting in and making these soft, soothing clucking noises while Rangi worked. It was so sweet!

Not long after that, Rosie left to go eat, and Maggie came back to harass Rangi and lay claim to the nest she was in. Once again, I was cleaning the coop and not paying attention, but the next thing I knew, Rosie had flown back up to the top row of nests and actually chased Maggie away from the nest! Little tiny bantam Rosie stopped large fowl EE Maggie from harassing Rangi on her nest! I couldn't believe it!

So then, I went over and started hugging on Rosie and praising her for being such a good midwife, when Rangi got up, jumped forward and nabbed poor Rosie on the back of the head. The ingrate! Sweet moment over. Rosie got lots of hugs from me after that. Poor little sweetie.
