x2! I have the acreage, but no barn yet! So jealous! I have a tentative plan sketched up, and lord knows I have enough breeds on my wishlist to fill the barn, just not enough funds to build it yet!


P.S. Love those Cochins! I miss my boy, Po. Might have to invest in some more the next time I have room in my coop.

Also, what kind of ducks are those, Campbells?

I had what started out as a very sweet moment in the coop this afternoon. There was a tussle over the top nest box (there are usually 3 on top, but I need to hose a couple out, so there was only one today) and finally, my super-meek Ancona, Rangi laid claim to it while the two other hens fighting for it, Maggie and Marama, were distracted by each other. Rangi started to nest when my golden Sebright, Rosie, flew up and stood at the opening of the nest. I was cleaning the coop at the time and not paying much attention to them, but I noticed a small sound, and turned around to see that Rosie was looking into the nest that Rangi was sitting in and making these soft, soothing clucking noises while Rangi worked. It was so sweet!

Not long after that, Rosie left to go eat, and Maggie came back to harass Rangi and lay claim to the nest she was in. Once again, I was cleaning the coop and not paying attention, but the next thing I knew, Rosie had flown back up to the top row of nests and actually chased Maggie away from the nest! Little tiny bantam Rosie stopped large fowl EE Maggie from harassing Rangi on her nest! I couldn't believe it!

So then, I went over and started hugging on Rosie and praising her for being such a good midwife, when Rangi got up, jumped forward and nabbed poor Rosie on the back of the head. The ingrate! Sweet moment over. Rosie got lots of hugs from me after that. Poor little sweetie.

Thanks ladies. love the little sebright pipd! Yes those are khaki campbells. We are getting ready to get the barn set up for all of the animalsfor winter. If its anything like last year, there is noway they can stay in the coops. We couldnt even get to the coops last year there was so much snow.

Well, that's the funny thing. I got a pair of 6-8 wk old jubilee orps, pair of 6-8 wk old mottled orps and these 6 cemani eggs for about the price of a Kia!

So here's what the hens have been up to:



Left to right it's Golden Comet, RIR, RIR, Wellie/Brown Leghorn, Black Orp, Easter Egger. The colors didn't wash out in the picture, except that the EE eggs are slightly bluer than that in person.

Sizes are L, L, M, S, M, L, S.

I have one RIR who throws a Jumbo double yolk every now and then. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed with the size of eggs from the RIRs, but they're all laying like champs. This week I got 50 eggs from 8 hens. I'm not expecting them to keep up that pace, but if they do, I can sell enough eggs to pay for feed and litter, and actually get into the black, with free eggs for personal use.
I don't normally do this, but:

Man everyone is talking about all these eggs. I got 1 yesterday!

Mine are still laying very well. But Dec-Feb it really falls off. I keep considering using lighting but talk myself out of it.

Howdy! I'm in Indianapolis.

I have Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, one ISA brown, one Broad-breasted Bronze tom, five Pekin ducks (four drakes, one hen), one Swedish Black hen, two Rouen hens, one EE roo, one mille fleur D'Uccle roo, two Golden Sebright hens.

I'll be open to trades and swaps when I can be absolutely certain nobody's contagious, but a new hen turned out to be ill and passed her bug shortly before dying. Long painful story. I've moved the only symptomatic bird inside and will be continuing 1cc of Liquamycin for another nine days just to be sure I kill this bug. So far the only one who's come down with it is Buttermilk, an adopted white Leghorn pullet. She's a super sweet gal and takes her shots better than I do Hopefully it's not CRD because I really don't want to cull her.

I'm so sorry to hear about the health issues . . . as you've noticed, we have a great group of people who are willing to help. How long have you had chickens? You have a nice selection!

@kabhyper1 ~ How often do you bathe your white silkies, and how do you wash their heads? My blue splash, Ditzy, often looks dirty. When I've given her a bath, I still can't get her head clean. I've used a washcloth with a tiny bit of Dawn to gently wash her head (I'm paranoid about the vaulted skull issue). I'm also afraid to get soap in her eyes or ears. I've used a little bit of Dawn in a washtub filled with warm water, and then I've put her in a tub of water with a little ACV to rinse off. After I've patted her dry with a towel, I've blow dryer her on low heat. Her pouf hasn't looked much different.

check out what I found in DH's closet while I was cleaning it out... It was supposed to be my b-day gift, in Oct. This is my horse Ransom.


It actully is not my horse but the woman that works at TSC is a personal friend and thought it looked too much like my horse so when DH went in to buy feed she showed it to him, and now you know the rest of the story.

But it is Ransom's twin right down to the saddle. even the little bit of white on his upper lip. I love it and wouldn't let him put it up till my Birthday

he has some on his chin too, thought it showed it but it don't oh well, I still love it.

So I got these the other day. Wasn't planning on them but very happy I got them!

Made a homemade ecoglow. Works great so far. Here are a few pics of it in use in the brooder with 65 chicks.i have regular light on top just for viewing and light. It don't really put off any heat.
