INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The swap went ok. There were some really nice OEGBs and bantam brahmas, bantam Cornish, sermas, Ameraucanas, an black minorcas, and a pigeon (which I bought-love him to pieces! I said I wasn't going to get pigeons a few months ago but he was so darn cute). We are going to have another swap meet in late April (we think the 25th but we haven't reserve the building yet). I hope to see a better turn out-but we had a good start. Thanks to anyone who came

I would say blue girl. I can't get the pics to open so they are small. The second looks boyish but only because its comb seems pinkish. I'll continue to try to open them for better view

I'm saying girl and boy respectively, totally based on how they're walking. Roosters have that upright posture.

Where are you located? I have been looking to add a few hens.

Yes blue Sumatras. A few splashes in there too but the blues are the pretty ones imo. I like my blues and my reds the best. The turkeys are fun too. I really enjoy looking at others pictures but the over and over part gets me.

Oh, I agree. I love blues. I don't think I've ever seen a blue Sumatra before! There were pictures of platinum Sumatras on another thread that I was drooling over, though! And yes, I love the pictures! I just don't love scrolling through them several times--especially on mobile!

When my husband comes home he opens the door to let them free range while he can watch them. They know he is home but hasn't opened the door yet so they apparently are planning to knock it over with sheer weight. The LOVE to free range and get all those yummy bugs. And, of course, dig in my mulch and maybe eat a flower or two.

I love all the colors in your flock! Quite the variety! My girls do the same thing, too, when they think it's free-range time. Everyone's smooshing up at the gate. It makes it really difficult to get into the yard without escapees.

My run is currently just dirt. You know what chickens do to grass. I don't like how muddy it gets so I am debating on wood chips or sand. Does anyone have any suggestions. When we get rain(if you are from Indiana you know how much) some of the chickens will get little mud balls on their toes. Then they have to have a pedicure, which they really do not enjoy.

Honestly, I haven't been using them for too long, but what I'm finding is working really well is fallen leaves. My Guinea fowl have always had a talent with mudding up their lower enclosure and making a total mess. I started putting leaves in there a week or two ago and haven't had issues since. We had rain off and on all day today, after which that enclosure would normally be a swamp, but I can actually walk in there right now in my junker flipflops without sinking to my ankles in sludge. We live in a pretty good sized woods, though, so leaves are abundant here.

I agree with this, at least from what I can see in the pictures. I know the buggers are hard to get pictures of sometimes!

the BLRW and the legbar pullets sure are tempting as well as the Brahma pair. I can pay in eggs and processing assistance for any roosters you may need to put down. how many dozen eggs would that be though? Maybe 5 dozen a bird, you would need multiple pickup dates for sure.

My profile pic is of my youngest DD and our 2 silky roosters. They are a handful but she loves them. Wendell, our rooster who was supposed to be a hen. We named him Wendy until he began to crow, now his name is Wendell.

As you can see, Salt, the white silky rooster has been fighting with Wendell who has pulled out his chest feathers.
