INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Honestly, at 8 months, unless you just recently put her on the ground on your property, it's not likely coccidiosis. With the mobility issues, I think putting her on Corid might cause more issues than it will solve. Mobility issues, especially involving the legs, are often linked to a deficiency in one of the B vitamins, which Corid, as a thiamine (vitamin B1) blocker, can make worse. If she is on medicated feed (which usually contains the same medicine ingredient of Corid), also, I would take her off of it immediately and switch her to a non-medicated feed.

Have you checked her over thoroughly? Any injuries? Signs of mites or lice? Do they free-range, and if so is it possible she might have eaten something she shouldn't have? What are her droppings like? EDIT: Also, has she started laying yet?

I think at this point it would be better to supplement her with vitamins. Add vitamin powder (Sav-a-chick or Durvet Vitamins and Electrolytes are common kinds; I have dosages for both if you need them) to her water and maybe look for some Poly-Vi-Sol without iron as an additional supplement. I'm doing some searching for you, so I'll let you know if I find anything. :)

I put the legbar back on regular water with electrolytes. They have been on the ground for months, I wondered if coccidiosis was even the correct diagnosis. I wouldn't think so since they have been on the ground in a regular run for months.

She has really taken a turn for the worse. From this morning until his evening she's gone way downhill. If she's still alive in the morning I will get some poly vi sol. Unfortunately I don't have any here.

I don't think she has started laying yet. I have 3 and have gotten 5 or 6 eggs but I don't think they have been from her.

I checked her over but not extremely thoroughly. Didn't see any signs of mites or lice but I'll look again.

The droppings that I KNOW are from her have been normal

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having some success preparing for winter! I am VERY slowly moving through my list but am having trouble finding a handyman to help install a walk through door in my garage. After paying someone off Angies list they showed up without the proper tools and then have put me off 6 weeks. I really want it done soon so I am moving on and trying to find someone else. If anyone knows of someone with the skills to help (would involve cutting through siding, framing in the door and cutting through the cement blocks at the base of the garage)! I am, of course, planning on paying for the help and have all the materials!

I am also over-run with broodies!! Every day I am tossing one or two out of the nest boxes, none are super persistent but they seem to rotate through on a cycle throughout the week. The major repeat offenders are my Marans but I also have an Isbar, a young Hedemora, a Bielie and a hatchery barred rock all clogging up the nest boxes and toying with the idea of being broody. I would have thought they would be over this by now!

I also had a random pullet sized blue egg show up yesterday. I guess it is possible it is from the Hedemora since she is the right age and I have not yet identified her egg color, but that is a surprise color! The Crested Cream Legbar pullet is only 12 weeks so there is no way it is her. Very random!
Good luck in your search for a handyman! I am dealing with the same broodies too. Its still the black australorps. They are nice hens, but I really got them for production, not motherhood LOL.

Wow am so sorry to hear she is ill. Thats a real puzzle, hope something turns up.

Thank you. Very helpful. This is exactly what I was looking for.... I would prefer to not have the birds leave my vehicle.

Do you put a sign up somewhere to direct folks to where your birds are in your truck?
Folks who are looking will walk around and check out the sellers. I leave some of my cards there if I'm not at the truck so they can call my cell.

This will be the first year I am sellig at Lebanon. I bought a $5 sales spot. Do I just pull up and park along one of the buildigs or do I need to check in with them first?
Go ahead and park and then check in. They'll give you a seller's tag for your setup.

Milton Kentucky? When does that sale generally take place?
Mother's Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Saturday is the best day usually; not all the vendors stay both days; early is better. I have a class on Saturdays (They get an online assignment for Lebanon!), so my sister handled Milton till I could get there. My peacocks were sold before we even unloaded the truck (5 AM) and she had sold out by 10:30 and was waiting for me with cages stacked and ready to load.

I have a cream legbars pullet that appears sick. I haven't seen/noticed any sneezing, coughing or running nose but yesterday she seemed lathargic and just standing around. I separated her into her own cage with food and water. I went ahead and started her on Corrid as well. I haven't seen any bloody stool in the coop or on the newspapers I put under her sick cage. I know that lethargy and puffing up is a sign of coccidiosis, just don't know if I'm missing something else. She is around 8 months old. I will be giving her some yogurt too when my wife gets home from the store.

Any more things I should be doing?

Edited to add: none of the other birds in the coop with her seem ill. Also, today she seems to be sitting back on her butt/tail like a dog would sit down. I don't know if this is because of the sickness or because she doesn't like the wire cage I have her in for now.

I'm sorry to hear about your CL. Pip offered good advice. When they reach that stage it doesn't make sense to do much else unless you really know what you're treating.

I lost two polish youngsters in the last week with much the same symptoms. The other cockerel that was with them is showing no signs of illness, but I'm keeping him isolated.

Hope your CL improves!

So here I am again, awake at 4am! Just can't seem to sleep more than a few hours a night anymore. Looking at my spreadsheet for hatch dates. Looks like November 4th is the last hatch for 2014, all polish chicks. Anxiously awaiting the pips and hatch on the 5 turkey eggs. One lil poult is already out, and the other 4 are externally pipped! 2 more weeks on turkey eggs, and they are finished this year. Halloween is the last hatch for them. My Bourbon Red turkey hen has stopped laying almost 2 weeks now.
Its a relief, I guess to not have chicks every week, but will be feeling a little sad without babies in the brooders soon. I plan to make myself wait til march for hatching.... yea

Bet I cave and jump on the new years eve hatch a long! If I do it will be a favorite breed here, like BCMs. Is anyone else still hatching? @kabhyper1 I know your broody ladies are! Asking members for their thoughts. What do you do for the new babies if you don't have a brooding mother hen? How do you transition a standard LF bird during winter? Lets post our thoughts to help newer folks raising their own flocks & consider their plans. I wait till my babies are fully feathered to introduce them outdoors unless its summer, dry and they can acclimate easily. Colder months takes more thought and planning to ensure the little ones are warm enough. I use heat in my grow up pen to let the babies transition.
Whats your thoughts?
