There I was, bragging on my pellet stove! Auger stopped working in the middle of the night, now I have to hand feed pellets into the fire AND my kitchen pipes froze for the first time since living here! Lawrence County is under travel advisory and Husband still went to work in the little Mazda truck..he left and hour early for the 20 minute drive though!

Good News- Husband decided we MUST have more chickens..has anyone order the meat n eggs special through Murray McMurray or the Hungrey Man Special through Cackle? I am going to wait a while to see how everything goes with a new batch of chickens in the neighborhood before getting my dream flick set up.

Will go up to Muncie Rural King this week, and hopefully Orshlen's in Greenfield if I have the time to see if chicks are out yet. TSC in New Castle have bins, no chicks yet.

Orscheln in Greenfield will have theirs late this month or early March. I called the other day to see when they were getting their chicks. Just FYI

Chick radar on... Rural King in New Castle had all pullets... Barred Rock, White Leghorn and Jersey Giants. $1.99 each. Also had 2 cages full of bunnies! And yes, I was strong and came home with seeds, not chicks

The Jersey Giants suffer from the same problems most hatchery JG's do....they're not very, um...giant. I had one from a different hatchery, and she only got a little larger than my hatchery barred rock. Now I have two girls from a breeder, and they are definitely on the large end. Their brothers were huge!

All the chirpers made it through the first night!! I can't say it enough, how nice and healthy the batch of chicks rural king had. I've seen a lot worse at feed stores that's for sure!

wanting to buy a new incubator....was thinking of a gqf incubator but heard bad things about the motor ...needing to be replaced..one guy said he replaced it once a year for five years straight...any thoughts on which cabinet incubator i should get...i love the coolerbators but they only fit so many eggs....and im not sure how well the fridgebator is going to work after alll the work is going to be done

Haven't posted in awhile, but I have caught up and have a question. Does anyone have any frostbite remedies? Both my boys had to spend the night amd today inside because of it. I have home made neosporin rubbed on them, but didn't know if anyone else had any ideas. Their crowing is about to drive me crazy!!!

I'm toying with putting in an order with Sand Hill Preservation Center if anyone wants some super rare breeds but can't meet the 25 chick minimum. Let me know if you are interested in adding to my order!

I'm looking at getting some Salmon Favorelle, Black Dorkings and Wheaten Marans.

They have a pretty cool list of birds available.

I was reading a gardening blog and she keeps ducks and when explaining what her drake has turned into she linked this YouTube video on them FYI i'm giving parents a head ups it explains duck biology and mating so watch ahead of time or by yourself in case you don't want to explain some things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k01DIVDJlY omg i have never kept ducks and i've never done any research on them so i was quiet surprised by the information on them. all i can say is male ducks seem like jerks during mating season(barbs) lol
