Woke up for work and to check on the baby's at 4 am! Surprise surprise the second mom was in the middle of birthing triplets!! Two bucklings and one doeling! All strong and very healthy! I just had a feeling yesterday that we needed to move them into the garage. I am glad we did. So here is the last set of pics. At least till they fluff up a little lol

We had to chase a bat out of our house a couple of weeks ago. DH and I hit the deck like incoming ordinances were launched at us. So "fun."

Howdy, all! Sorry for the LTNS. Have been crazy busy with the kids for months. Things seem to be settling down, thank heavens.

I have a chicken q: This morning I noticed the birds' waterer had frozen over, even though it's in a heated dog bowl. (The water in the dog bowl isn't frozen, and the waterer itself isn't frozen, there was just enough ice on top of the drinking surface to keep the birds from getting anything...and I suspect it was too thick for them to peck through.)

At any rate, I refreshed the water and it spilled out like a waterfall. One of my silkies immediately started drinking from the overflow and I couldn't help but notice her head getting wet. She doesn't have big wattles, but I can't help but wonder about her entire head. The earlobe, whatever. What should I do?

I have put off setting my Emu eggs because of my incubator construction...
Now one of those girls decided to sit so I stuck about 8 more silkie eggs under her!

Lol!

@Mother2Hens hope your sister recovers quickly and things settle down for you too.
I had major problems with polish. The other chickens loved to de-crest them. I ended up re-homing them to places where they could avoid that. I hope your silkies heal up quickly.

@SallyinIndiana
Is there a non-crested CL.... or is not having a crest a "fault"? I always wanted them but don't want birds with crests so this is of interest to me.

There are the cream legbars. I'll have days olds soon as will Brad and Racin...

Currently I'll be posting this almost everywhere later today when homeschool is over but for now I'm posting here first.

I have 2 smooth topped / no crested cream legbar hens available. the first is 6 weeks and the second is 4.5 weeks. I can add in a CCL rooster with bent toes too if a roo is desired. Message me for prices. These are not $2 chicks.

Makes me miss my pygmies, especially when the kids come along. Then I look at the damaged fences and am not so sorry I rehomed them.

Boy I'm glad we moved them in tonight!!!
We already have a baby doeling out!!

She has at least one more to go but I kinda looks like two more in there!!
And we just picked up some gates at TSC tonight in a scramble to move them in the garage!

An interesting article regarding sexing of eggs and technological advances to eliminate male chick maceration.
http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/2/20/the-short-brutal-life-of-male-chickens.html

It will be interesting to see how this technology progresses.

This is why Queen Elizabeth, one of my barred rocks, is going to need to be rehomed or her new name will be "Dinner".
