INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The Oxine pre incubation wash may have some impact on AI. I can't be sure, but it is effective on other diseases. I did the Oxine, Denagard soak on my 4 little cochin chicks that hatched last month. They are strong little boogers. :) Something to look into maybe.

I'm not trying to pick on any one, but this has to be corrected. Any egg wash will only affect the surface of the egg and potential pathogens there (which there may be, from poop, soil, what not). It would have NO impact on any bacterial or viral diseases transmitted to the egg before the hen lays down the shell around the egg. I do NOT want people to think these kind of attempts will affect AI. They won't! Only if the bacteria or virus on the OUTSIDE of the shell, not if it is inside the egg. Since the state tests the egg interior, it is clearly passed down through either the yolk or albumen, and not the shell. I do not want people thinking that any egg wash is a quick fix for AI. If it were, no one would have a problem with it. Commercial flocks probably all use antibacterial/antiviral egg washes, and that didn't stop them from being infected. Use egg washes if you want for other reasons, but don't kid yourself into thinking they will prevent AI or kill it inside the shell.

I think 50's is fine. Of course if you don't want them all muddy again that's up to you. I personally would put them back out as soon as possible because I wouldn't want to deal with reintroducing them!

they have a pen all to themselves, what happened was my jerk dogs went through the fence ( well under it ) to get out and run the neighborhood and that let the big chickens in with them and Romeo and my splash hen got the worse end of the beating... :(

Yeah that stinks! I have all mine together, LF and bantam silkies, cochins, d'uccles and an Egyptian Fayomi hen, fortunately I've never seen them or had injuries resulting from them being picked on by the LF. Now my Grown Peacock didn't like the bantam d'uccles or the white silkies for a long while, he would grab them and even kicked them while holding them but he hasn't done that for a long time now. surprisingly they were never injured by it!

I didnt make any guarantees. I suggested it be looked into.

Ellymayrans, Sounds like wry neck. Selenium, vit E, and poly vi sol with out iron. I dont have exact dosages but there are good threads on here that have them. If you caught it early she should recover quickly. Good luck! :)

@pginsber Absolutely! We should PM each other our addresses. I would love some Obus/Kroumir Melon, Blacktail Mountain Watermelon, and Cherokee Purple Tomato.
I will send the seeds out right away. I will check and see about the raspberry cutting starts. If I have some ready I will send it. Otherwise, I can send cuttings or root it for you

and then send it?

@flyladyrocks Yes! They are red, I have black too, but red yes! I went out yesterday to see how everything faired under the snow.
Everything looks like it is ready for spring! I'll see if I have any started, otherwise I will start one for you!

Our original girls are now 2 full years old. Of the 6 we bought, still have 5. Our flock has endured a couple hardships, but have always been rewarded with beautiful, delicious, fresh eggs!

Over the past year, we've noticed quite a few wine bottles with chickens or roosters on the labels. Just for a fun thing to do, we've been on a quest to find all the different kinds of spirits with any kind of poultry on the labels. There are quite a few ducks/geese labels, so we focused on Chickens.

We acquired many over the course of time, emptied them

, and DW removed the labels. Finally, we had enough for inspiration to hit. DW arranged them in the bottom of a weathered barnwood tray, then put protective plastic over it.

It turned out too pretty to keep as a serving tray, so we hung it on the wall...It looks great!
Now, I'm trying to convince her that we should collect more bottles and she could make a companion tray!
