Lol. Yes, admitting we have a problem is the first step. But your biggest problem is that none of the enablers on this forum (myself included) will allow you to believe it is a problem. In fact, they will tempt you with pictures and rapturous descriptions of breeds you've never seen, but now must have. Not that that has ever happened to me....and I've never done that to anyone...oh wait, you have my Bresse now, and I'm saving CCL eggs for another member, and I have Dorkings on order, and Muscovies, and more turkeys ordered too...have I mentioned I have poults for sale?

Yes. I'm another member of that club. Although I'm a firm lover of Orpingtons, I hatched some Bielefelders this spring & look longingly at all those darling Dorking pics. I keep reminding myself that I've hit my limit.

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone need, want, or would take anyway, one or two Black/Lav Split Orp cockerels FREE? I am inundated with boys, and even though I'm keeping several, I have absolutely no need for another black split at this time.

If you need them gone, I can take them for my free ranging flock but the free ranging roosters are table roosters come fall - Christmas time. Some of the ones I hatched just for the freezer are having their bad day Saturday. A few mixed roos and some of the black star roosters that I grew out. Maybe a sumatra or two as well. I'm going to sen a 10-12 with my Dh over to Racin's place and hope that he gets at least 8 done.

I was worming my goats with Ivermectin and the lock slipped, so my billy got about 700lb dose. Did I just kill my goat???

I know how you feel. I overdosed one of our rabbits last year and all of his fur fell out. Other than that he was okay and recovered. And this was about a week or so before the fair so my oldest daughter had to show a naked bunny. Very embarassing.

Although I have stepped away from the thread, I feel it necessary to share this map with you all of the control area in our county. No bird movement in or out during this time period. Although there are no county roads labeled, for locals we get a pretty good idea of where they are looking at the map.

No evidence of anything egg-related. While I annoyed her trying to save her life today, she pooped all over my leg and both feet--a small amount of green poo plus a small amount of white urates, but no evidence of any egg components.

Her temp today was 107.4, and I'll bet it was higher yesterday (hard to believe chickens can survive such high fevers). This does not bode well. I honestly don't expect her to live, but I'll do my best. She got more SC fluids plus some honey/vitamins/aspirin/water via crop tube, and I switched the antibiotic to LA 200. I still don't see anything externally. She clearly has a serious infection, and I suspect it's gastrointestinal since there are no respiratory signs (still) and no reproductive signs (though I have not ruled that out--especially if she happened to lay internally). She is not a very cooperative patient, despite feeling lousy. She is only good for the little "rain shower" she gets once a day, and she isn't too bad for the SC fluids, but she did not enjoy being tubed. Nor did DH or I! No one else is sick, so it's unlikely to be contagious, but we are taking all necessary precautions just in case. If she does die or I have to euthanize her, I'll definitely open her up to find out what happened. I hate unsolved mysteries.

Thanks to everyone who has offered support and suggestions!!! I appreciate it.

I'm sorry about your "patient". I know how difficult sick chickens can be. We have had a couple that needed to be nursed back to health. I hope she recovers.

Do you know how long this will be? I have not heard of any other AI positive tests in the area. I am hoping it was contained. Although I feel sorry for the people affected. I just found out that the quarantine has been lifted from my friend's property in Wisconsin. I am not sure exactly what that means. She said no birds for six months. No other cases were found withing 6.2 miles of her property.

Got 15 beautifully packaged eggs from @bradseligthis morning! Can't wait to get them in the incubator!

And I have another broody hen! Hopefully this one will be a better momma!

I am so sad and frustrated right now. The chicks we got 2 1/2 weeks ago (from an NPIP cert. person) have problems I've never had before and have caused so much stress! First Cocci, then some possible respiratory issues. I thought I saw a bug right after we got them, but it was an instant and could not find it again, so blew it off - must just have been dust. Should not have, they have lice. I did not check all the chicks b/c I never imagined that I would have brand new babies with lice! But they were in a pen in the large shed where all her breeding pens are so they were in the vicinity of and connected with lots of other birds. I am hoping the respiratory issues are stress related from their poor little bodies being overtaxed from Cocci and lice? She said she does bug checks bi-weekly and monthly Ivermectin treatments and has not seen any bugs. But noone else has lice, these babies have only been in their 2 brooders (one LF the other bantam). I realize all these things are issues that happen with chickens, but it is awefully coincidental that I suddenly have all these problems only with these chicks. I spent 2 hours dusting them with wood ash late last night after cleaning the brooders. I'm sure that helped their stress level. She also said she has not had any health issues or had anyone report any.

Wanted to go to processing day @racinchickins
But I won't go now, I don't want to risk the possibility of spreading anything until I am sure everyone is okay.

I have 7 turkey hens, and it's been a week since I've seen one outside even for a minute. They are all broody, haven't gotten an egg in weeks. One thing I am noticing is be careful with too much humidity in your hatcher. I've been keeping an eye on my poults hatching and it seems like with the thicker membrane the poults get stuck earlier and easier than the chicks. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've never had lice problems with my chicks since I brood them in the house away from the adults, but it periodically crops up in my adult birds. I'll find it, treat it and things will be fine for a period of time. Then I'll be working with a chicken for some reason or another and there it is again. I think it returns periodically because although I can treat my chickens and turkeys, I can't treat all the wild birds that love to fly in and out of my barn. I hope you found it and dealt with it in time for your chicks.

One thing that I have found that helps with cocci at my place is that when I clean out my brooders, I don't remove all the bedding and I don't disinfect. I leave a small bit, and I think that allows new chicks to get gradually exposed to the bacteria and whatever that is specific to my farm. This allows them to build up their immunity gradually. I may be totally off on this, but I've raised several hundred chicks, and cocci has never been an issue except with a few that were bought elsewhere and probably had the issue when I bought them.
