Happy Un-Chickenfest Day everyone! Looks like most of the state is dry, but we're nice & soggy today

We're soaked here, too. :/ Hope everyone else is okay! My mom texted me to ask how we were out here because where she works in Fort Wayne, the storm blew some windows open and even broke one of them! We have some fallen trees, especially out in the woods, but it doesn't look like any of my fences or coops were damaged, thank goodness!







Since I'm here as well, here, have a ducky. He doesn't believe me that he could fit in one of those things just 4 weeks ago yesterday.

Once again, the "color gods" have failed me and shorted me on lavenders. Grrrrrr. It's OK when that happens sometimes, but not fairly big hatches in a row. Oh well. Next year will be better if I EVER get enough pullet chicks to keep for myself so I can breed just lavs next year!

My chocolate and chocolate cuckoo Orp kids got baths today. Photos will be taken once they are perfectly dry and have forgiven me for the bath. Almost all the down is gone, so they are just starting to look like little attractive juveniles. They have the terribly uncreative names of Hershey (M) and Cocoa (F).

I am so sick of rain (which hasn't happened YET today, but looks probable). We literally have algae growing atop the soil because it has been so wet for so long. I feel like my backyard belongs in a cypress swamp, and I know I'm not alone. However, the chooks couldn't care less. Whoever came up with the "Mad as a wet hen" expression is nuts. NONE of my chickens mind getting soaked, as long as it's a gentle to moderate rain and not a T-storm. Today they all look a bit cleaner, though. My blues looked mauve (blue plus brown) yesterday!

My blue (full English Orp) eggs are again proving to be the last to hatch. Lesson learned: American Orps hatch soonest, half/half a little later, and at least in my case, full English hatch last. Has anyone else found that to be the case?

If they've been with a broody put some Ivomec on them. Even the smallest amount of lice or mites will kill them quickly.

Thanks! I've been checking for bugs but haven't seen any signs. I may ivermectin them anyway but they look much better today! Maybe they just hadn't drank any of the water with Corid in it? What do you guys think about putting them back out with their momma?

BTW I'm officially building an ark! My coop flooded yesterday

Been awhile since I watched this, and I'm in a dancing mood today, so I thought I'd share this with you....There's a 10-hour version if you like this one.

My first thought was, "This is stupid," but I found myself laughing. Chickens are just so funny! And laughing is so good for us! I'm guessing that the 10 hour version was created for a rave/ecstasy experience. (not by my first-hand experience! LOL) Congrats on your dancing day!

@chick rookie Good to hear that your goats don't eat your poison hemlock! This link below has good info. Basically to get rid of it without chemicals, you'd have to completely cover yourself for protection and dig it up, put it in trash bags, and throw it away. One concern that is mentioned in this link is poison hemlock being found in hay. I really hate to mention another thing for everyone to worry about!

Your chickens in your photos look very pretty. I love my BR and my orps although I don't have a buff. I think they were both featured in the book, "Once Upon a Flock."

As promised.. mama goose and her adopted muscovy babies! I sold 7 of the first 21 that hatched, here are the other 14! Chocolate and black pied, blacks. They aren't cold, trust me this was taken when it was upper 80s and humid. They all cluster to sleep, its too cute. Mama goose is now sleeping in the grow up pen with them. Please forgive our muddy mess! And my garden hose, ducks need a lot of water.
