Father in law has been moved to extended care, and is recovering well!

Have 3 trays left in the incubator and not setting anything else unless the turkeys start laying. Time to wind it down for the year. Last call for EEs, they are still laying well, and will only be setting eggs on request.
Had a very good year on muscovy hatches and 3 more broodies still on eggs. Most of whats in the incubator now are ducks! Anyone looking for muscovy I do expect a few more to hatch soon. PM if interested, most will be black, chocolates, barred or pied. lavenders are all spoken for and have a waiting list.
Mother goose and oldest muscovy ducklings are doing great, some are half her size already. (drakes)

At what age am I supposed to be able to tell gals from guys? We have five which are already three or so times the size of the other two.

Kind of funny because the first time I was in a big city all by myself, I felt so out of place. I think its more about what one is used too, then they can better spot the dangers.

Very good point. I've felt out of place in both places--and suburbs, too. It's all about what's home and what's not. Every place you can live can have terrible, great or absent neighbors. Every place has its pros and cons, its crazies and jerks and saints; its pests, beauties and horrors. No place is perfect, not really.

I grew up in the (poor, old) suburbs with family in the country, have lived on both coasts, and now I live in the 'hood with family in the 'burbs and country.

Am I crazy or does this look like a fertile egg? We got rid of the roo 3+ months ago. The cockerels are only 15-16 wks old. Yes, they're crowing, but I've never seen them try to flirt with a hen. The younger "teens" are in a tractor all day & only with the flock at bedtime. (Not much opportunity to chase the hens around & hatch mates are not laying yet.) I doubt my big girls would even allow a young teen male to get close.

Well cancel that hen finally decided to give up trying to hatch non existent eggs.

Maybe if you give her real eggs she will try and if not there's always the incubator method cheap one would be heat lamp over a box in the closer it would cost like 15 dollars lol just don't hang it low to the box make sure it's high away from everything and get a thermostat to monitor the temp in there needs to be 99.5 or close to that

Noticing they days getting shorter already. So glad the rain is finally letting up a bit. Its been pretty hot, but I will take that any day over snow lol! Got a bourbon red egg today, yay! And noticed one of my MW hens sneaking around bushes by the barn too. Will be looking for a nest tomorrow.
Neighbors goose pair has its first gosling, he keeps American buff. Just adorable lil thing! I taught him how to candle an egg and what to look for. James is about 14 and is just crazy about learning everything he can about poultry.

Having possible emergency with the BBB jake/tom-in-training. He wasn't moving much at all yesterday, just hung out in a corner of the yard, panting. I brought him into the back porch and put a fan on him, gave him ice water (he hasn't drunk any) and some cucumbers (which he did eventually eat). He doesn't seem to be able or desiring to walk and hasn't been vocalizing to the girls (who are really worried about him). Even when allowed off the porch, he won't leave. He isn't drinking. His right leg seems like it may be bothering him but doesn't have any obvious faults. I'm not seeing any injuries, both legs and feet are the same size so there's no swelling, no blood. He can stand but doesn't want to. I'm not sure what's going on, and Google just wants to give me results for Turkey as the country instead of the bird

I have Excedrin and Ibruprofen, but no aspirin or straight acetaminophen, though Excedrin has 250mg acetaminophen and 250mg aspirin (it also has 65mg of caffeine/pill).

I'm not vet, so take this with a grain of salt. I don't think tylenol or ibuprofen or caffeine are good for pets. Perhaps supportive care of coolness and water are the best right now, give what you have on-hand.
