hoping is easily treated. You're welcome, I had seen it recently in a friends goat she had just purchased.

I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found my first silkie eggs!!! found 3 but think only one is laying!!
My mom said that you don't know if they are a cockerel or pullet till they crow or lay and egg. We thought "Anna" was a boy, but no she laid an egg. Now there is an egg song symphony going on so probably more than one is laying.

@chick rookie it's at least one of your girls laying! (I'm @flyladyrocks daughter)
Aww, wonderful news! Congats on your eggs!

Well... more interesting things happening here... My parents' neighbor had to take a puppy in from someone who didn't want it/couldn't keep it, and the lady of the house wound up being allergic to the pup, so they had to find him another home quick. My son was over at his grandparents' house while the neighbor's were playing in the front yard with the pup, and of course my son had to run over and play with the pup too. It was a match made in heaven... so we have a puppy now. A bitty green-eyed pit (his parents were pretty small too, from what I understand). Gattigan has been really attentive to the pup (every time the puppy whines, this kid runs for the leash to let him out!), and he's always been really good with dogs (and training them! Even when no one else could get one of our giant foster dogs to do anything, Gatti--at age five--could make that dog settle down pronto!).

He's about eight weeks old or so and already working on housebreaking! (

) On the drive home, he started whining, so we pulled over and let him go pee! He's so precious

Nermal McStankbooty (Queen Kitten, Murderer of Mice, She Who Farts in Faces) has already begun showing him who's boss and doesn't seem sure if she wants to play with him or beat him up. She's warming up quick though, and I'm sure they'll be best buds before very long at all. She's really needed a playmate (and the boy's really needed a dog around).

He is just precious, and very lucky you found him!

Although it is completely illegal, and immoral in the US, yes its part of some cultures in other countries. Anyone doing it here is asking for some severe penalties and long jail sentences. OH had a large cockfighting ring and many folks went to jail, many birds were euthanized, early 90s. Just horrific. My neighbor recently warned me that livestock auctions is where the poor roosters are harvested from too. He overheard discussion while someone was bidding on a big batch of them.
Happens at swap meets, too. I don't go to many but do like the one at Milton KY. If I have cocks to sell, I set my prices higher than they want to pay. Then if someone seriously seems interested in a bird for the bird itself, I can adjust the price. Generally, though, the breeds that I have don't attract the cockfighters.

Be sure to with hold feed 12 hours a day or you risk them "flipping" aka heart attacks.

I feed them normal 16% chick started instead of the meat chick started twice a day two cups in the morning one at night there are 26 total not a sign of health issues in the bunch is this ok?

Follow the hatchery recommendations for feeding. The lower protein will reduce the risk of flip, at least. Most will have a chart telling you feed requirements for their line of cornish cross.

As far as I can tell they reccommend feeding the higher protein that I feel is not healthy or the way I'd prefer I'm actually trying to keep as many as possible alive and hopefully a few for a project of mine and a few as gifts to chick rookie for waddles or atleast bargaining chips next time I visit her lovely chicks lol but they say don't feed for 12 hours a day which I normally do
More like 14-16 hours a day just because I work and sleep

Regardless of a person's culture, as you said, it's illegal and immoral, not to mention inhumane. The following comment is not directed at you (we know your history as a director of animal control and an animal advocate

) or any other member like @Indyshent because she didn't know where the roo came from

...In general, "IMO" etc., My hope is that if more people would speak up and not look the other way when a problem is suspected, animals could be saved and people could be accountable. In the not so distant past, people "minded their own business" when child abuse or domestic abuse was evident or suspected. Hopefully in the near future, people will feel more comfortable about reporting suspected animal abuse. I've periodically commented about this subject, Speak Up about Animal Abuse, since I've been a member of this thread. I've read many posts about unethical practices at some swap/auctions as well as posts about shady online sellers and also negligent neighbors. It's just an issue that I feel strongly about since animals need our help.
I'm stepping off the soapbox...

This article that I originally quoted from happened just last year in Indy:
Roosters confiscated in cockfighting case
indystar.com 11:07 a.m. EDT October 3, 2014

Roosters were removed from properties in Fayette and Henry counties after a cockfighting investigation, officials said.
The Indiana Gaming Commission enlisted the help of several local agencies to remove the animals, according to a release from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
The number of animals being taken is unclear, but it is “more than 15,” according to the release. That number also includes some dogs.
Investigations into alleged cockfighting by police in Bargersville and Greensburg started a chain of events leading to the seizures, officials said. Those agencies sought the Indiana Gaming Commission’s involvement.
Investigators executed search warrants Thursday with authority to seize roosters and other animals. Johnson County Animal Control has opened a temporary shelter where the animals seized will receive medical exams and veterinary care, officials said.
Authorities are collecting forensic evidence to be submitted to prosecutors, according to the release.
“During cock fights, birds commonly suffer from injuries including punctured lungs, broken bones and pierced eyes,” the release states. “These injuries are often the result of knives and artificial gaffs—long, dagger-like attachments—that are attached to the birds to maximize injury. Often, steroids or other drugs are administered to the birds to make them more aggressive. Aside from being cruel to animals, cockfighting is closely connected to other crimes including gambling and drug possession.”
In Indiana, cockfighting and the possession of birds for fighting are felonies punishable by up to two and a half years in a state prison and a maximum $10,000 fine, according to the release.
