INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Honestly, one hen is not going to be enough! I am sorry to be so upfront about it but have made the same mistake. Pekin drakes are really active boys. Only adding one hen is a death sentence for her. I have kept pekin almost 4 years now, started with a pair. I did some fast scrambling to get more hens! I won't keep more than 1 drake and I have 6 pekin, several misc. breed ducks for him. My Rouens are not nearly as aggressive a breeder, but those drakes are able to ward off the pekin drake from the rouen ladies. Craigslist may be a good source to find them, or ask your local feed supply if they have a duck breeder in mind.
Yes I've had several people tell me this. I'm planning on getting two females and trading one of my males. That way I will have two pairs. Thanks!

I have 2 pair of India Blue Peafowl that need good homes.

I am offering them at $100 a pair.
They are in good health and were from the rescue efforts I've been involved with. They have been through their month of quarantine on property that has never housed birds of any kind. I have treated for worms and external parasites.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks!

Pairs is not enough. Pekin drakes will rape the stuffing out of both girls (and each other). You need an overwhelming number of girls or no girls at all.

Rats! I did keep a blue roo from you but the blue hen I have doesn't lay as dark an egg as the black. Is that true in your flock? Or maybe it's just my particular bird. The blue that hatched with the roo hasn't started laying yet.
I wish I was closer! Our kiddos would have fun together! I hope you found someone.

I will have Black Copper Marans Cockerals in the spring. I have 32 hatched in the last few weeks.. Will be ready to cut some from the breeding program in the spring :D

Or rehome to me? Or sale cheap?

I'm sure we can work something out on a Roo

Quote: Pekin need several hens to one drake, I have had as many as 60 ducks to 3 drakes.. all eggs were fertile! The drakes are nonstop breeding machines, not joking. Your other option is to pen your duck hens away from the drakes, only allowing them a day visit twice a month. We use our pekin for a table bird, and raise a few hundred a year for the freezer. My one drake for the winter has 5 pekin, 4 mixed hens. Several of those girls have bald patches from the drake over breeding so he is confined often.Just trying to save you the heartache of dead duck hens.
