INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Happy Saturday, everyone ... how about this weather?!

I have a barred Ohiki chick around a month old that I would like to rehome as a pet. I call him Gonzo and he has a lot of personality!

Because I already have three barred Ohiki roosters, I don't need to keep him - plus, his legs are a bit long for the breed standards. But he would make someone n excellent pet - and he will be beautiful! The barred Ohiki get the bar gene from the fly tie fowl. Gonzo will develop long hackles, saddles, and a long tail.

He has a long neck that he likes to use for photo bomb purposes.

If anyone is interested in him, please send me a PM.

Postscript: Ohiki are a rare bantam breed from Japan. There are less than 1500 of them in the US.
Yes. I had to look that one up. I never heard of them before. Very pretty.

Rooster update:
Both have been acting normally for the remainder of the day. Roo#1 & #2 have been sharing the yard, food, water, & hens just fine. Not sure of the initial cause but they're now acting like it never happened. The flock usually stays as one large group with the boys in the middle. If it were serious would they avoid each other or constantly attack or are there no rules? (Never had 2 roos before)

Seems like they will work it out with one of them dominant in the end. I think it's rare that they fight to the death.
Hope it all works out.

I've decided on my summer building project for this year......Get the birds out of the barn! I can't keep anything else in the barn when they are in there. They soil everything, and if it is remotely possible to eat it, it gets torn apart. I tried tarps over some equipment, and they've absolutely shredded them. and then pooped all over what's underneath (and laid eggs under there too....) Also, since it is an old barn, the walls are not air tight and I get some cold breezes no matter what I try. Frostbite has been a problem and the cold this winter has reminded me that I need something that will work in our winters and our summers.

Then I found this:

I got the book that is referred to in thread and am starting my planning! It won't be cheap, but I'll get my barn back! I can keep the barn coops for breeding and hospital pens.
That was one of the coops I researched a bit before designing my greenhouse coop. It was why I had the south wall panels easy to replace with hardware cloth windows. I never did leave the coop completely open during winter though.

I'm way behind this year. Plan on setting up breeding pins tomorrow. Standard orps. I plan on Splash on Black in #1 Then Black on Splash in # 2 And Blue on Blue in #3. I'm still deciding on setting up a 4th with buff Brahmas. I guess I will decide tomorrow on that one. I could do an English pin but I really like my standards size better than the English. If I get done in time I will post some pic's. Good luck to all of you hatching now and congrats to those of you who have hatched already.

It is true I am still alive!!
How has everyone been. Already have a couple (9) chicks in the brooder. If anyone is looking for scovys let me know I'm getting over run by them lol. I have a few that I would like to get rid of perhaps trade for some young layer pullets. Other than that been the same around here. Am changing things up with the goats. Starting with a fresh heard in a few months. Hope all is well with everyone!
What colors I know @racinchickins is looking for Lavender hens, @ellymayRans is also looking for hens to add.
Goats, yep am going to switch to nubian soon. I will still keep my Sugar, the oberhasli but I am seeing a lot better personality in Nubian bucks.

@pipdzipdnreadytogo I did borrow a game cam. so far its a stray cat catching mice, (he can stay, busy fella!) and raccoon and possum I set traps for.
This cat looks exactly like our old girl that's been here at least 15 years. She was a kitten that DD found under the porch .She is a house cat now, too old to be outside. This guy has a white chest and bigger than our Sassy girl.
The possum is huge and theres a whole group of raccoon.
