I do not. But I was told Monday. I'm guessing the RK selection is going to be better though. I'm currently trying to figure out if I can snuggle a couple EE home from RK even though I have 15 chicks coming Tuesday or Wednesday! Lol

I'm not sure when it ends but RK is doing a free chick week after rebate... Best way to convince loved ones is "they are free"

So I worked up enough courage you could say to research Great Dane health. There were two things I read that really stood out to me, heart defect and bloat. I am leaning more towards bloat because as I reflect back to the night before Diesel was whinnier than normal. His whines were all the same, if he had to go outside, if he wanted to play, hungry, didn't matter, he whined he wanted something. Well that night he whined more than normal but we thought he just wanted out of the dogs room to play which we did for a little bit until my fiancé and son needed to go to bed. When my 2 boys go to bed, my 3 fur baby boys go to bed so this momma can get some peace and quiet and my homework done! That's how our night routines go. We thought that him whining he wanted to play cause he was trying to play with our boxer which he was exhausted and didn't want to play, so we let him out to play with him which helped with the whining for a bit. Then off to bed he went. 2:30 am I heard him whine, which means he needs to go out to go potty. So I got up and let him out. I watched all 3 cause the further they go out into the yard the harder it is to get them back inside, (we live on a farm, 7 acres to mow and 2000 acres of crops) so Diesel looked normal to me early that morning. So something happened between 2:30 am to 8am when I woke up to let the boys out.

Past couple days have been extremely rough, more so when my 4 year old son ask me when Diesels coming home. I try explaining to him that Diesel went to heaven. And once the snow melts I will take him back to where we buried him so he knows where he's at, so that when he asks about him we could walk back to see him. I want to plant a tree where we buried him and make a memorial plot for him.

We currently have a Dane/Lab mix. (Only 100lbs, so much easier to deal with than a Dane. He must look up to eat off the kitchen counter, so if we push things back & stack a barricade around it, it might be safe,) I just love the big dogs, but we were warned about common bloat is with Danes. Because they must eat a lot, we use a raised feed bowl & feed 2xs per day.

Our girl loved to eat. Whenever she thought we were running late with doggie dinner time, our Dane would bring up the other dog's plastic bowl & shove it in our laps at the table. Dogs eat after us, so they disliked days when we took a little extra time to have a dessert. We used to laugh until the day she decided to eat the bowl. Danes have the jaw strength to eat whatever they want! It was pretty scary, smelly, & of course expensive. Everything about Danes costs 3xs more. We have all kinds of crazy stories about what that dog did. IE- She dug a hole under the fence then went through the neighbor's doggie door (covered in mud) to play with his dogs; After we planted a 7' tall apple tree, she dug it up, pulled it to the middle of the yard & used it as a toy!; She never understood why we'd go swimming in her water bowl. (a very old 4' deep,10' diameter above-ground pool) One day she tried to jump in to join us & the metal side panel gave out! It ran downhill & flooded the neighbor's yard. She died of cancer at age 5, but she remains one of our most talked about pets.

This was Doppler. She was a Blue Great Dane.

I picked some of those up last week most of mine look like Americuans and I think I got a black sex link to.

Is she waddling like a penguin? That's a potential sign of internal laying, and you can feel a mass of stuff in their lower abdomen (gravity just takes them to the lowest point of the bird). I don't think it's related to the crop issue.

You can put on a new latex or nitrile glove with some lube on your index finger and feel around inside the vent. Occasionally if the egg sticks close to the vent, you can feel it (not to be confused with the bones there).

For future reference, you can drain excess crop fluid VERY CAREFULLY by sitting down and placing the bird at a 45% angle across your knees. Tip the head no further down than 45%. Let them take frequent breaks so they don't aspirate. I only let them drain for about 1-2 seconds at a time, let them shake their heads and settle down, and make sure they are breathing OK before tipping them down again. The WORST thing to do is hang them straight down. Sure, it will all drain out, but they will die a few days later from aspiration pneumonia.

If you have not given her some antibiotics (I've been off the list and am not at all caught up), I would. Penicillin or Tylan perhaps.

She's not really walking much, but i found a pic of a very upright hen (looking penguin-like) & no Cuddles isn't quite like that. She alternates her legs, but slowly. She's kind of leaning forward. Perhaps to keep balance since her back end is heavy.

I just took a pic of her and 2 most recent poops. It's a little less liquid now than this morning. She hasn't eaten since thurs night - only some water, stool softener, & electrolytes. I'm nervous about adding food to the swollen gut - but the crop is down. When I offer soft foods she declines. I apologize if these pics are offensive. I really wish I knew how to cover up the pics so only the curious could click & see the gross poop & vent images. * If someone knows how & could teach me, I'd love to learn.

I need to do a project for my Writing in the Sciences class, and was curious to know if anyone knew a science-related professional with quick turnaround on letters. The last few intended interviewees cancelled on me, and I need to a rough draft by Thursday.



In other unrelated news:

• The lame roo has made no improvement even with tons and tons of b-vitamins.
• RK does in fact have up to 10 straight run chicks free after rebate.
• I picked up nine Brahmas because I'm stupid. The hope is that they are dark, but if they're light, I can use them for a sexlinked project next year with my buff Colombian roo.
• We picked up a 10x10 shed kit as Home Despot today, after much rigmarole and hullabaloo. It's going to be an huge improvement as a coop goes.
• Still no golden pheasants, but at least DH is getting the idea of what I'm looking for in a run/coop for them.
• Major Tom is calling for Ground Control, methinks. Going to have to look into getting some more sociable midget whites, but he's an ornery little stink.

If you go online it's any breed they carry straight run I think the pure breeds are rir ,buff orps, australorp, leghorns, light brahmas, silver laced wyondots, gold laced wyondots, ee, black and red sex links, americaunas and the mixed breeds. I think I covers them all not sure

Hey everyone. I haven't been on here in about 2 years. Had a baby. Moved. Busy busy. It will be nice to get to know everyone again. My avatar has me in Columbus Indiana, but I am now in Pierceton. We still have our 4 normal sized hens and our black bantam cochin Susie. Getting chick's this next week as our girls aren't all laying anymore. They are getting up there in age.
