Yeah I've been looking, like I do. I'm repurposing a Rubbermaid tote for inside.

Outside I'm looking at using the water softener salt tank as a gutter catchment.

I truly love them both but the Peas are my favorite. I had heard many bad stories but now i wonder how anyone couldn't love their antics and calls.
Today a few (and very few as there were a lot) of the beautiful birds at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

I am too tired to read posts tonight. Although I go outside with my flock almost every day of the year, beautiful spring days cause me to stay outside for too many hours doing yard work with the girls and taking them on field trips. By the time I get my other work done in the evening, I am exhausted. Being outside with my flock is a nice reason for exhaustion! Here are a few pics. The only one not pictured is my Blue Silkie, Smalty, who is broody—she has a short attention span and always gives up after a few days. Haha.


I was busy adding leaves and other organic debris to this soil and looked over to see this monochromatic scene. My 2½ year old Bantam English Chocolate Orpington, Bonbon. Since I've lost four flock members this year, Bonbon likes to hang out with me. Smalty wants to be Bonbon's BF, but Bonbon rolls her eyes—LOL—if she could, she would.


Other flock members include my four-year-old hens: SLW Lacey, EE Roadrunner, and Flock Leader BR Tweedy


When we were back in our far backyard where I took these pictures, Mr. and Mrs. Mallard Duck flew low right over us and landed on our swimming pool cover. It had enough recent rain on top to allow them to swim. I ran up the hill and took this photo. It would have been interesting if the hens were near the pool when the ducks landed. Of course they aren't afraid of ducks and geese that fly over, but I think they would've been surprised to see them swimming!
One last thing…just a reminder that when photos are posted it's helpful to list the breed (you don't have to add names and ages like I just did —Haha!) We have members who are just learning about breeds and considering how many chicken breeds there are, we all continually learn! This also applies to other poultry, pets, etc. It's not a rule or anything—just helpful.

Sorry, if I can't find a real paying job, I have to fill my time somehow. I'm riddled with guilt. it's a male thing. LOL

What was your experience with the cochin roos? I've got little red waddles coming on my freebie chick at four weeks, so the jury is in I think. Most of what I have seen has been positive of the breed in general, but most of what I've found leans more about the hens. I wasn't looking for a rooster at this point, but I'm not opposed to one or two. It dawned on me last night that I have five barred hens (2 rocks, 3 marans chicks) so I could hatch black sex link chicks. Though they would be feather footed and slow maturing, the roos could make decent meat birds I would think.

Just playing out scenarios in my head...

Well .. ok... I guess I can let it pass. lol
I love Cochin's... because I feel like if the roo's are this great, the hens have got to be Awesome!! My roo's are sweet, good with people and other critters as well as other chickens. They are huge and that is a plus with DH... he likes big critters, is why we have two mini horses in the house ( GP's ) lol
They are a little clumsy with the ladies at first but don't take long for them to figure it out and ya just got to love their fluffy buts running across the yard to get in on the treats before they are all gone!!! lol

I can't believe how fast these chicks are growing.

They look different every morning! The Easter eggers never stop eating. Day or night, they are at the feeders...pushy about it too lol. 3 of my BRs were pasting up a little right from the get go, but they've had some probiotics and a little unfiltered acv in their water and their bums are clean this morning. Hopefully that was the end of that!
Apparently some guy went nuts and was holding his wife a gun point. It was a regular occurrence to see someone get their arse kicked in the middle of the street in front of my apartment. But....it was our first place. We just took the cheapest we could find lol. (14 years ago).

I hope your egg sales stay strong. Just put up signs on busy roads to direct them to you. That's what everyone does up here.

Wow thats a sure way to get Swat called on ya. was thinking about the signs probably will do that but still pretty far out not going to hold my breath... lol

@jchny2000 i don't know if I posted but definitely saw your post for your first pea egg!! So exciting!

I got word yesterday that my sitter said he woke to 2 of my new hatches dead which i find strange and worried but nothing i can do from here. ; (
I left 4 newly hatched silkies and 2 guinea chicks at home. So not sure which it was.

@atrueb00 yes we are in the same place ( for now ) but in case you missed it we are moving to a new bigger and better place down south in Shelburn. WAY WAY out in the sticks!!!! We start moving things today, and I cant sleep for the excitement!!

Agreed, I use fencing wire, and wire it to a solid object so there is no chance of the light falling.
Oh my, DH just shakes his head. I am still peering into the incubators after lockdown, and staring over the brooders. It just never goes away, you get so hooked.

He started calling me a broody hen last night lol. We doubled the size of the brooder, so they have lots of room now. We will secure the lamp better today. DH picked up concrete and lumber for the floor and frame of the coop last night! :yiipchick Finally time to start building! We have been clearing the area for weeks, because it was taken over by poplars. So excited!
