@ellymayRans You know, those are pretty, but they're not as pretty as my birds. What can I say, not everyone can have birds as pretty as mine. After all, I just got to cross off owning a pair of golden pheasants from my bucket list, and, as we all know, golden pheasants are so rare and beautiful that even zoos don't keep them.

HAPPY (slightly belated because this didn't correctly post last night) APRIL FOOLS, EVERYBODY!

I think I pulled my own leg so hard I may have tripped myself on that one.

It's 4/1, and I may as well make myself content and look on the bright side. Peafowl, geese, goats and even emu haven't been on my list quite as long as golden pheasants (they've been on that list about 20 years, actually). I don't really have the space for more, larger or noisier birds (though I'd never turn them away). A big plus to pheasants is that they're small, beautiful, don't eat much, and don't make much noise.

Well...the wind knocked the power out. I put the chicks in a much smaller box with a big bottle of hot water. They are pretty freaked out and so am I! I hope they do ok and this doesn't last long.

Snowing here. And they put a ban on semi-trailers from using the toll road due to predicted high winds.

The snow has been pretty, but with the wind, the chill is really cold!

I'm looking for Turkens/Naked Neck chicks or hens.... I'll be traveling south next weekend towards Indy & southwest, so if anyone has some for sale please let me know! I will consider hatching eggs. Let me know where you are! I'm from Goshen.

So laying in bed and watching the chickens. Then one of the biggest gust of wind sends one of my leghorns tumbling across their part of the field. I haven't laughed that hard in awhile

I can picture it in my mind. Hope she's OK & just embarrassed a bit.

My orps are managing. They dislike the wind & snow but unless things get overwhelming, they stay outside. Until........ a ball, garbage can lid or something similar blows by. Then, they squawk as if under attack & run back inside.

Not sure what they must be thinking now. We've had light snow & rain, followed by heavy winds & a touch of sleet, then heavy snow. Everything's wet & muddy; the snow has melted. It's lightly snowing now & the sun just popped out!

Due to the high winds in Indy today our power went out and IPL says it won't be restored until tomorrow morning! Yikes! We have 4 1-2 week old chicks and I'm worried about them getting cold. Any ideas on how to keep them warm without electricity tonight?

Big question for those people who use a heating pad in their brooder. Mine worked well so far. Chicks are 2.5 wks old & were moved out to the garage. Tonight's going down to 26'F. I'm nervous. Can the heating pad really work in such cold temps? Should I try to figure out a heat lamp for tonight?

When I've checked on them, they're eating & drinking like normal, but I'm darn cold out there! They're also under or on the heating pad mama.
