INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I kept my sick hens with the flock. My reasoning may sound stupid, but I felt if one is sick the others must be as well. You can also rub the VetRx on their eyes. I just used a spray bottle because it was easier for me than to catch and hold the sick ones. Once I started treating them with Vetrx they did start eating after a couple hours and didn't start drinking till the next day or so. I'm glad you got Vetrx! I wish your hens the best of healing!

They are selling all their animals. The girls father said he is tired of how poorly his daughter treats them. So I wasn't supporting abuse. The girl is 15 years old and her dad said she wasn't suppose to let them keep breeding. I had my friends buy the rest of their animals. I found an old lady ( Thats what she told me to call her! not my own option! She didn't give me a name lol just said call her old lady!) with a farm for all chickens and geese, had to help transport them to her farm. Geese in your back seat... people driving next to me thought I was yelling at them!! , and my friends bought the muscovies and goats. The father says he will not let his daughter have any other pets till she brings her grades up and learns responsibility. The daughter gave me a pretty bad attitude as if I was stealing her pets. You could tell she wasn't happy. And I did in fact report them.
WTG! I am glad to read your reply, you did the right thing. Please don't feel insulted by what I wrote. I just feel very strongly about hoarding conditions animals are put through.

Hi, my wife and I are new again to raising chickens. We had some chickens 18 years ago when our son was in 4h. Being retired now and living out in the country we thought that it was time again to raise a few and have some fresh eggs. We live in South Lake county, a stones throw from Porter county. I've been looking and reading articles and threads on BYC. So far no major issues. The girls are 3 weeks old today. Chris and Pat

Well, we have some new additions! OEG and "Buckeye" chicks, from my own flocks. My Old English Game standard hatched 2 chicks themselves. And my RIR hens covered by a Dark Cornish rooster has given us our first few LF chicks, incubated. First gosling in incubator hatched tonight, 1st turkey, first duck lol! Not going to be a mad hatcher like in previous years. Forgive the brooder being dirty on top lol! buckeye 2017.jpg First one out of the incubator, dry and fluffy!

I wasn't insulted at all! I completely understand your point! I actually am in a rescue group. I work close with local vets and animal shelters. And some points I end up with the rescues as my foster pets. I re-home them to people whom I find fit to have them.

Woot! First turkey? Are you hatching Major's progeny? Pretty sure the three I hatched are red bronze, red slate and something wonkier (Penny looks like a chocolate sweetgrass but with a bronze base... or a golden silver auburn, neither of which seems to have any pictures on the internet). Think she's Major over Hershey; she's certainly tiny enough. What ever happened with the Porters poults?

Yes its white, so Major and Sweetie's poult. I do have the porters' mixed poults also, they are almost 4 weeks old. I don't want to hatch a lot, just enough to add new chickens etc. So many of my flock are older especially in the geese. DH loves duck eggs so I am hatching more Pekin.
