INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Getting back into Quails again! Just bought 30 quail chicks today for $1 each! Also bought 36+ Snowflake Bob White Quail hatching eggs, 24+ Blue Scale hatching eggs, and going to buy 24+ California Valley Quail hatching eggs!
I have 4 incubators now! 2 filled with Muscovy Eggs and two empty waiting for the eggs to arrive!
In my first Little Giant I have 41 Muscovy eggs.
In the Cheap Chinese one I have 27 Muscovy eggs!
My second Little Giant I bought a egg turner that hold 144 quail eggs coming in the mail Wednesday. So I will be using it to hatch my new quail eggs.
My Second Cheap Chinese Incubator is a two story but I took the top container off and used the styro foam shipping packaging to "Box" the incubator in for insulation. I am going to buy another 144 quail egg turner to replace the 56 egg turner in it.
Also have 12 Muscovy females starting to make their nests. Going to have lots of babies!

Oh boy! It's going to be crazy there in a few weeks!
Are you planning to sell a lot of chicks?

Yes! There is an animal swap in Rensselaer, Indiana September 17th. From 5am-1pm. I will be selling Muscovy ducklings, juveniles, and adults. Also Quails of Coturnix, Blue Scale, California Valley , Gambel, Northern Bob White, Snowflake Bob Whites.

The perfect chicken must eat like a bantam, produce like a Leghorn, be the size of a Brahma -but with clean legs, winter hardy, forage well, have soft laced feathers that always stay clean & smell fresh, cuddle like an orp, & go broody once a year.

BTW- I mentioned that my perfect chicken should "smell fresh" because I actually have a hen that does have a good smell. My Dominique has very, very soft feathers. It surprised me because they don't look much different than any other chicken's feathers. Most chickens have that earthy, chicken smell which can get strong & turn into that wet-chicken smell. Probably because of all their dirt/sand baths, most chickens smell like clay or dirt. My Dom has a spring fresh after a rain shower kind of smell. Not sure if it's the breed or just her individual case.

Does anyone else here have Doms? If so, go smell your chicken & let me know.

Bubbles doesn't always stay clean & her feet are often muddy when in search of worms, but the barring must also hide the dirt.

@JanetMarie
Have you ever smelled your doms? Do they smell "spring fresh" like @Faraday40 s dom?

Wow! What a set up

A lightning strike took out the big shade tree in front of my chicken run! Had it taken down Saturday and I am so sad! My mom and I got burlap to hang as shade curtains for the girls until I get some trees planted. Should only be about 10 years until they're nice and cool again ha ha

The First Ladies are loving their higher roosting bar. I'm afraid I have a Ronnie instead of a Nancy. Can anyone tell if the buff with the red comb is a male or female? I just noticed today how differently the two buffs are maturing. All of the First Ladies hatched around the third week of march.:fl :oops:

Burlap curtains...I'll have to fancy them up a bit with some ribbon but hopefully it will help keep out some of the sun! Ignore the mess around the front of the run!

@nenebynature
That first buff sure looks like a boy to me.

Nice curtains! My small hen shed is right in the sun. We haven't used it for the last couple of years except to house a couple of boys that needed a place until removed but it gets really hot in the summer even with all the doors and windows open. I think we may end up moving it to a different area where it can be under shade.
