INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

That's why you use it as a treat, not a staple food. Just feed about what you think they will eat quickly. I think of it as hot cocoa for chickens.

Partly. Isa Browns are a hybrid of multiple breeds including RIRs.
Yeah, I could have given a little too much the other day.

cooked instant oatmeal + meal worms.
Yum!
DH once caught me making a similar special treat for my 15 yr old iguana's birthday. I sprinkled her kale salad with sweet potato baby food & a few superworms. Poor DH thought I was making him lunch until he saw it move. He was so relieved to see that particular salad go into the iguana enclosure.

Heh. Personally, I prefer apple & cinnamon flavor, but you have to consider your audience. :)

I'm so shocked. The 5 Rhode Island Red Hens I just got last week are laying everyday from the day I got them. I guess I didn't stress them out too much during the move. Sadly they hate my Muscovy's.... They try to attack them. So I have to keep them in my Broody Aviary That I use for my Muscovy Mama's. Come spring I have a new building project for the chickens to roam in.
I really want a rooster to breed to my girls.
My muscovies concede to the chickens. Even though the chickens are not mean to the muscovies, they don't like to be closed in with them. With everyone having to stay inside I moved some of the hens to another area, with hens they are already familiar with, so it works out.

My Sept Chicks are 14 weeks old today.
I have 4 remaining:
Male with gold leakage, named "Dinner" because I think that's all he'd be good for.

Female

Female

Male (I hope)

My biggest concern for the ? male is that he has no pointed saddle feathers yet. Even when I part the back feathers, I cannot see any pointed feathers. If anything, the new growth looks sort of square. A minor concern is that he does not have the comical leggy look that most teen cockerels have. His wattles say male & the comb is bigger than the two females, so I'm still predicting male.

"Dinner" has been growing saddle feathers for 2 weeks now. They look cool with gold lacing around the edge of each feather, but for a lav orp he's a mess. Because of the amount of leakage, I'm beginning to wonder if another hen laid the egg. Of course, that would make it harder to explain the lavender.

The winter (Nov 30th) hatch is 4 weeks old now.
Here's mama teaching them how to use the heated drinker.

Side by side: One always stands taller. From hatch I've said he's a male. Now his legs are getting slightly thicker. Biological mom = blue orp, who may carry lav & mauve; dad = pure lav orp. The chick that died during hatching was a blue orp.

My June 17th hatch (Trouble their Sebright mama on the feeder)
GG = Buff Colombian Orp
Blizzard = Silver Blue laced orp
(What's funny is that I tried to sell these two pullets with no success. Now I'm kind of happy to still have these beauties. I have a pair of silver laced orps to put with Blizzard. I won't breed GG, but I never had a buff orp, so now I do.)

So today my Fatherinlaw bought me a Rooster whom they claim is a Ameraucana. He looks like my Easter eggers I use to have. He is whiteish yellow with bright yellow legs and I guess you call it a pea comb? I'm going to try getting pictures of him in the morning. And then my friend bought me a Australorp Rooster at a auction today. I have yet to see him. I was told he is huge. Tomorrow I will get pictures!

Our feral born Manx, named Sandal, who was an indoor/outdoor cat was killed overnight. He didn't come in before bedtime. Pretty sure a coyote. There were tracks around every outbuilding. It looked like Sandal was sleeping in the greenhouse, and the coyote got in there.

I won't find another cat like him, as he was one of a kind.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Both of our cats died this last year due to dog mauling and being run over.
