What kind are you hatching?

I have a Black Copper Marans rooster, Murphy, who is more of a golden color, so I crossed him to my BCM hen, Nadine, as a test cross to see what happens. Here are the parents:



As of my last check a little bit ago, we have 3 babies out and 2 more pipped.

I've decided to sell my quails again!! I am getting a bit grossed from their droppings smell. Also with my new arrivals of Muscovy's, I don't pay much attention to the quails. Anyone want quails, cage, waterier system and all? They just started laying!! The two pictures with the red feeders aren't laying yet. They have 2 more weeks to go before laying eggs.

I believe I'm more then crazy! I'm defiantly obsessed!
I just can't stop myself. No two Muscovy's are a like! The ones I'm getting is one pure bred White Muscovy, and 3 Muscovy's mixed with Pekin.. I already have a new home for the mixes. All I want is the lovely Pure White one. I have an order of 50 Straight run white Muscovy's to do!

Why do you keep doing that? Oh, you already said why.

I plan to keep quail in the area where currently I have one flock of chickens. They dig up all the rocks around that side of the house and they get flung into the yard all over. Chickens are too messy to have next to any area of the house.

Quail will be at a later time for me.

I have five hatchlings as of about 4am this morning. I moved the oldest four to the brooder while I had the chance between pips. Still waiting on the last egg, but I'm pretty sure I heard peeping from it this morning, so it's possibly internally pipped? Anyway, here's some cuteness for the morning.

My Dominique hen is feeling much better.

I've looked for mites on her every time I give her medicine, and have not found even one on her for the past few days.

It was the sunflower oil that I put on all the areas where I found the mite parties, and rubbed into the feathers and on the skin in those areas and all around. It smothered the mites, and totally non-toxic to the bird!

I highly encourage you to consider scaling back to a handful instead of selling everything. Try keeping only a few birds of your fav color. The work, mess, & smell will be improved. You can also continue to sell some eggs for eating & hatching. If you still don't want them in the fall, it's a good time to process when they're done laying for the year. But if change your mind, getting the numbers back up can be done without much effort or cost.
