INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thought you were getting out of dairy and going beef? Why get a Holstein bull if your Holstein cow was a freemartin, or are you wanting to get more Holsteins/outcross?
My cow neighbor gave him to me lol! He is working a lot of hours, and little Opie came down with scours. Jack called and asked if I had time to take care of him. I told him I would, and he said he is yours to keep. I kept telling him no, but he said it was to thank me for "borrowing" Moose. I still plan to switch over to beef cows but this gives me more time to find good stock. And save up for it too, a good Hereford or Angus is pricey.
The cross between the 2 dairy breeds works out well. Jersey have a larger capacity for carrying a calf, that's why they are popular for cross breeds. And yes, unfortunately Abby is sterile.

Opie is such a doll baby :lovehe is doing better every day. My Dad actually came outside today for a bit and met Opie! He told me he is a pretty special little guy. I got him a chair to sit with him and Opie kept laying his head in Dads lap. When Dad was a kid, all the boys would ride the bulls like horses.

Beefy and his ladies enjoying a dust bath!

Kinda bummed tonight, still not seeing any fertility in my goose eggs. I guess its time to add new bloodlines and face the fact the adults are getting too old. There are 2 I will not part with, Gee my oldest gander (he is 6) and Nibbles my youngest little girl from last year. The other 5 will probably go to my vet's farm, they will have a huge pond. Lots of land and plenty of birds to watch over.

I was so excited to get the chicks into their pen but this weekend is NOT COOPERATING. GRRR

Hopefully getting my stepsons this weekend. We will see how they like the farm and the animals. From what I remember they're good with them, but we added a bunch since their last visit.

I think if they're afraid of Tank I will die laughing. He's so sweet! And I've been given the green light to find him a girlfriend. (Hubby just doesn't know it yet but the landlord said yes.) Haha victory!

I'm glad they have a home at your vet's. They're really pretty birds!
