INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Planted all our Tomato starts tonight, now have all the Pepper plants hardening off. I'm not going as big this year, just no time for it. I do want to get sugar snap peas and beans in. I already have mature tomatoes on the purple cherry! Will still plant squash too. I'm probably not doing corn this year.
My pet chicken flock followed me out there, since I had the electric fence down. Tons of grubs and worms for them. I don't let them access it much they will wipe out all the plants.

We let ours in the garden area before planting and after harvest. They love digging and we have a deep litter on the garden so it's full of worms.

We just closed it off as we're starting to plant and a couple of them found a little gap under the fence and were in there a couple days. Took me awhile to find how they were getting in. They're very clever at finding loopholes :)

My EE hatch for my DIL is locked down. She bought me some silver queen chicks, a green egg layer and 2 BB turkeys. Guess she likes how I cook the holiday turkey meals lol.
I've hatched several EE chicks for her so we will swap soon.
Meyer hatchery let me down again this year! No goslings cancelled my order again. I was not very polite the 2nd time last 2 years. I'm going to try https://www.strombergschickens.com/category/Goslings-For-Sale next year. I have a huge following for gosling and this cost me a lot. My flock is old and Meyer has let me down, ordered in January. Ridiculous.

Metzer Farms sells really nice goslings. Metzer sells cheaper too. My down the street neighbor has a flock of 10 geese from Metzer Farms. https://www.metzerfarms.com/

I did look at them also but are sold out! I love the breed and they are getting harder to find. I like the white Chinese as much but love the browns color. They did offer white Chinese. What they cost I'm getting what I want not a sub!
Anniversary weekend and we're at the campground. Met DH here 20 years ago - married him the same date, the 28th a year later at the campground. Its our 19th anniversary. Oldest brother and his son both have sites here too. Its a second home to us, many friends and family here. We hosted a Chickenfest here several years ago for our thread. We both love Brookville lake, just beautiful.

DS's 4H project had a lot of hatch results. Thankfully Cookie (our best broody) happened to be up for a large adoption. She has 3 poults, 6 Spitzhaubens, 2 orps, and 4 seramas left. (All the others were sold.)

Because it's such a large group, I keep them confined for safety and to help Cookie keep track of them. One serama is especially tiny. It's still about 1/2 the size of the other seramas...... but not as small as the serama who hatched yesterday. (That's how I know it grew.)

They are 3.5 weeks old now.

Here's the tiny one. She has ratty wing feathers, so I'm sure she's silkied.

Here are the other seramas. Looks like 1 male & 3 females to me.

Some Spitzes: I just love how they look!

I only have 2 orps left. A lav & a blue silver laced. It's early, but both still look female.

Meanwhile PR went broody & 6 weeks later, I finally hatched a few chicks for her. Sadly the hatch was not a good one. (Shipped eggs & ZERO HATCHED) 5 out of 10 developed & made it to lockdown, but only a few "just for fun" seramas eggs hatched. PR was sitting on 3 eggs which started to develop, but the other hens kept pushing her around. I'd find her in the wrong box or a smashed egg all over the place. The goal was for her to stay broody long enough for these precious shipped eggs to hatch. I gave her the 1st chick yesterday. She started bonding by talking to it right away. I kept checking every 30 min and set up a brooder for her. Sadly, it ended in tragedy when a hen took over her nest and accidentally squished the chick. I moved her inside anyway & added the 2nd chick..... then a while later the 3rd chick.

Oh well. At least she's finally a mama and thinks these littles are hers. The incubator is still going, but I highly doubt any more will hatch this late.

Hello! Our family is newer to this site. My daughter decided to get into 4H Exhibition poultry this year. Of the five birds we decided to order of course three turned out to be Cockerels which we cannot keep.
Estimated hatch date was 2-14-19. There is a bantam black frizzle Cochin , bantam blue Cochin and white crested blue polish available free to new homes. They are all hand raised and so far very good with humans and other pets.
Located in NWI and ready to go!

Just curious if your daughter can show them at the fair & then to try sell them there. (If they place they could fetch a decent price.
