They're pretty much seasonal layers. I've seen some commercial garage set ups with stacked cages of various ages and timers for light. That's probably how they get eggs in winter. Mine always shut down in the fall.

Okay, thanks. I'll keep them through winter. I have a small group of chickens in a shed that I'll use for the quail once this group of chickens live out their lives. They'll have outdoor access too.

Quail are great if you enjoy those little eggs. When laying each hen lays an egg a day. (Decent sized for their small bodies) They're quiet, don't take up much space, mature quickly, and very easy to process for meat. The biggest down side is that they don't have the personalities of chickens and stop laying for the winter.

We always had a bowl of hard-boiled quail eggs in the fridge. The kids would eat them as mini snacks or trade them at school for "better" treats. LOL
 
Good morning fellow Hoosiers!
This is the third year that I have been trying to get Embden goslings.
I really don't like the idea of mail order. I would be so upset to open the shipping box and find a dead baby. Also, since I don't drive and hubby works long hours many days, I would have to find someone else to pick them up for me. And I certainly don't want 10 so that prevents me from ordering from Rural King.
What I really want is 3 female goslings that I can make arrangements to pick up. Does anyone know where I can find them?
I will greatly appreciate any ideas/suggestions.

Hey, everyone! Been a while since I checked in, My chick that hatched a couple months back is doing great! Posting a video which includes (hopefully a) her.

Unfortunately, the main reason I'm posting my video is that my roo is in a very bad place. Could be Marek's, but after all the reading I've done on it, it seems like it could be anything, really. He's lethargic, has no balance, and keeps pressing his tail feathers down. Not sure if he's trying to balance himself or what there. He falls over, doesn't like walking over things, and is a mess in general, really.

If you have any ideas, let me know. Today I got him out of the coop, because it's been a couple days since he's come out on his own.
