Indoor Coturnix

I guess I would go with the Manna Pro, although it's expensive. What I've done is gotten the 50 lb bag of Purina Gamebird Starter from the feedstore and an airtight container for dog food to put it in. It took me almost 6 months to go through a whole bag, but I felt it was better for the birds and a lot more cost effective. For me to get the Manna Pro, after shipping, it would have cost the same as the 50 lb bag.

I really like the container I have and it fits almost the whole 50 lb bag of feed.

Since I knew I wasn't using it quickly, I wanted to make sure I could store it well. I like this container because you can put things on top of it and still get into it, which in an apartment, space is at a premium.

Back to the food question, if you can't get gamebird starter, the manna pro would be your best bet, for chicks anyway. For adults, I would think the 22% is fine.

As many birds as I will have I think I can probably get by with the 5lb bags, but when I kept birds before I had the feed in a plastic tote like 30x20x18 or somewhere around those dementions. My purchase arangment is for 2 doz. eggs that I will only keep a quad from the rest are going to new home as soon as I can sex them and pick my favs. then I will only set 10-12 eggs 2 or 3 times a year and they will all go to auction unless I need replacements or somebody makes me an offer to buy them privetly. So I will only have 16 tops after whatever hatches from the first 2 doz.

I desided on cots because I want to eat most of the eggs and I'm going to have my 12yo brother incubating and brooding 35 miles away and in my mind buttons are a little harder to raise.

I just did a list of supplys and cost to get started with cots and it fell just under $90 (but I will gain a little back selling the chicks I don't keep). Shhh, don't tell my wife.

Well most of this Idea just got nipped today, the landlady says only fish or cats/dogs w/ a doctors note (seeing eye dog, anxiety, blood pressure theropy, a doctor freind, ect) so quail at the apt. is a no go and everything else around here is at least triple the rent. I do have this idea brewing though and praying it pulls through for me... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=581168
I'm not giving up this easy, but may have to go a little bigger than I had planned.

If you can't have pets, make them your business
