Mainly flies

So my duck sparkles is inside since one of her legs is completely lame. We set up a pen for her and put some straw in it to make it soft for her. Change her straw and food and water daily, sometimes the straw every other day but still frequently

Can’t get the flies under control. Was worse in the summer. We ex had to work fly strips into our budget each month. Since it gotten cold it hasn’t been bad. Cracked the windows a bit and froze them out. But still finding flies in her food and maggots every day

She will probably never be an outdoor duck again due to her leg. So how do we make her comfy inside and kee the flies under control.

For anyone worrying about her being alone. She was with my male Nibbler, who also had a lame leg, until he passed recently. My dogs and my pig play with her, snuggle next to her pen, let her bite them on the nose, she seems to be doing ok from a social perspective

we use pet playpens for our ducks, and they are fully closed with mesh so no flies or any bugs can get into them. you could try those, only if she’s indoors since they aren’t at all predator proof

don’t worry about/listen to the people who are mad at you for keeping her without other ducks. disabled ducks are definitely an exception for the “you need two ducks” rule

Will look into the pet play pens. We had kind of looked into them before but our pig loves the duck and likes to lay against the pen we have that’s a converted extra large dog crate. Sometimes she shoves it hen she lays next to it so had concerns about durability
