Preface: I know many folks here think it’s insane to let chickens roam around indoors. This question is for the other people who are fine with it...or those who are in the first camp but don’t mind answering my specific question without berating me for letting them inside :)

I know little chicks need grippy flooring to walk on so they don’t go splay-legged. But what about adult birds? Is it okay for them to walk on indoor hardwood floors a bit, or is that bad for their feet? I’m assuming most of their time will be outside, but some time will be indoors, and about half my house has polished wood flooring.

thanks!

Hi birdpants, I have a pet goose that lives indoors with me so I see nothing wrong with it. As for the floor my floors are mostly carpets she has a diaper so no mess and she (GERTIE) GRIPS JUST FINE. SHE ALSO HAS AN OUT DOOR COMPLETELY SECURED to go in during the day but comes in @ night to sleep. I taught her to walk up stairs one web foot at a time and she play the drums I made her .I took a large metal trash can strapped a bungee to secure the lid on it and she holds the bungee with her beak and hits the metal trash can with her wings which looks like she is playing the drums. ITS a RIOT (LOL). She's my buddy along with my special dog (pictured)here named kyra. They get along fine. As for your chickens I don't think you will have any problems once there legs are strong enough as long as you don't mind your floor getting scratched. I believe all animals have there own personalities ,give unconditional love and can be trained.

If there is a coon in the yard, is it ok to bring hens inside or will city say I am keeping livestock inside against ordinance
