Indoor pen setup for pet hen

Pics
I have raised several chickens in the house. One pet rooster stayed in until he was four months old, we had to put him out when he started to crow. The cage might be ok for just sleeping but not the majority of her time. However I have used rubber mats that could be sprayed off daily and air dried, so replacement mats were needed, and I‘ve used a roll of plastic folded double with old newspaper on top of plastic. They run free in the house during the day, and that means a lot of daily cleaning. Not ideal for most people.

Keeping one lone chicken is actually being cruel,
Chickens are communal and would not thrive or even survive as a lone soul. Chickens are especially prone to at will pooping and urinating and inside that would be an all day choir just to keep at minimal health standards. Hamsters or a lizard would be a better option as they thrive alone… Chickens no that will not work out.

Has anybody got any reviews about using this Petsmart rabbit cage for a pet hen? What should I use as bedding if I plan to keep a chicken in my bedroom?

I'm sorry, but a chicken cannot live a healthy life in something like that or even confined to a room inside a house. This cage is not even acceptable for a pet rabbit. The free-range movement stems from the recognition that animals should be allowed to live a more natural existence than being confined to an unnatural environment.
Also consider the unhealthy conditions you will expose yourself to by keeping livestock in your bedroom. lt's not just the poop that smells. A full grown chicken just emanates an unpleasant odor when in an enclosed space. And the dust and chicken dander will be in the air and settle all over your space.

That cage would be fine for a pet rabbit if used only for sleeping. Most people let their rabbits run around and train them to use litterboxes and stay away from electrical cords. If you are a younger, school-age person and are hoping Mom won't notice a chicken in your room, think again. No way to keep the smell from drifting all over the house.

Agreed! My cousin has had rabbits almost her whole life, they had half a bedroom for their sleeping and quiet time, the rest of the time they explored the house.

Ive been rehabbing a cockerel and he has the rule of the downstairs, sleeps in our bedroom. Wouldn't dream of enclosing him in that tiny cage....and yes I sanitize and clean all the time .
