Indoor Quail?

I have 60 of those buggers & they would love to be inside right now. Its so hot they gotta be miserable. I don't really care to have animals in my house but it would be neat to hear them crowing inside. I do like their call. If their not fighting you should be fine.

Yep! That's the sound! I love it though lol It's like they wiggle their heads to get it all out lol!

So you think if they were going to fight they'd have done it by now? That's what I sort of figured, too. It seems males of any species get along fine as long as there's no females around.

All birds are different yours seem to be doing fine go for it.

The first quail I ever hatched were both males and they fought all the time, so expecting your guys (who are just barely old enough to realize that they are guys) to live in harmony is kind of naive. Yes, they could live together and get along well, but the odds are against it. That's why most of us keep them in large groups: a male coturnix, if in a single pen with his own females, needs to have at least 3 females so he doesn't 'overuse' them. If more than 1 male is kept per pen there needs to be a minimum of 5 females per male. Another reason why most of us keep them outside is because they stink

And the gawd awful dust or dander !! It just gets everywhere and a constant dusting is required where ever they are kept... Bill

Well they're right in front of me 24/7 so I'm sure I'll notice any bloodshed.
Like I said-I use pine wood pellets for bedding and they don't stink at all. I clean their cage every day just like the Dove cage. I imagine if I had more than 2 & didn't clean the cage everyday it would stink, but so far so good.
I can't believe someone actually called me "naive" lol! If only you knew :)

I think folks who raise large numbers of birds in battery cages outdoors tend to (understandably) overestimate the amount of mess and smell a few birds in a frequently cleaned cage will make. Birds, in general, are messy smelly creature when enclosed, but quail no more so than other birds in my experience.

I don't know anything about keeping two males together, but I do know that ducks also have trouble getting along with other males if there are females present. If you have even one female, you have to have at least six or, better yet, ten females to avoid fighting and overbreeding. But males kept together without any females around can often get along just fine. The same, it turns out, is true for guinea pigs. So I would not be at ALL surprised to find it true of quail as well, especially two boys who were raised together.

Good luck, and keep us updated!

I have heard of chicken cockerels getting along fine when there are no hens present, but I'm not sure about the guinea pigs. I used to have three guineas in a large Rabbit/Guinea hutch and one of them got picked on so much that he had a massive scab covering his entire back and we had to put him down

Alternatively, I know that at my college they have successfully kept male guineas together, so I guess it's at least partially dependent on the personality of the animal. I know that's the same with cockerels as well, as some are really placid and really don't care if there are others around and some are just plain mean and attack anything in sight!!

I know there is one cockerel at my college (Winston, he's a Cotswold Cream Legbar) that really HATES anything near his run, he even attacks the goats!!
