Lets face it - sometimes as a 'Chicken' Person, you sometimes feel on your own, either literally or figuratively. Many chicken owners are single, and others are not blessed with a significant other that 'gets it'. My own partner is very supportive of my hobby, but regards most chicken related work as "my thing'. This means something like building a coop or a run can be a bit overwhelming if you have to do it on your own.

There has been discussion on the Indiana thread of people getting together to help each other out on major projects. I'm starting this thread so we can use it to communicate, discuss, decide, plan, and coordinate that work. We definitely don't want to exclude our other Indiana BYCers, but recognize that some live far from Indy and that we have a critical mass of people close enough here to be able to possibly make this work. We also don't want to clutter up the general Indiana BYC thread with chatter that is specific to the Co-Op. So subscribe if you would like, and let the teamwork begin!!

I saw that the shed project (first on the co-op list, I think) is in Whiteland. If the date is right. my DH would be willing to help load. Whiteland is not that far from us.

Editing to add I can message anyone contact info for a good run builder / fence builder. He is very reasonably priced and does not have a long waiting list. He does not love putting up nets but still helped DH with ours.

I am definitely willing to pitch in as well. And I'm requesting help with my coop. It would be excellent if we could get it knocked out quickly and cheaply.

Sally I think the shed thing won't work. I think we will have to build a coop. I don't think there is a place that it would fit outside my fence and it won't fit inside my fence without breaking it down. I will keep looking for sheds maybe I can find something smaller.

How cheap could he build a run if 3 sides are already fenced?

Search craigslist for used chain link fence - it is normally pretty cheap that way. It won't keep out mink/weasel/starlings/snakes/sparrows or other small nuisance animals but will protect them from Hawks and the larger predators. You can build a simple wood frame to hang it on so you can put it on top as well.

Oh good idea! The other 3 sides would be chain link anyway. .I live in the burbs so I only have to worry about the pack of stray dogs and the occasional raccoon. Mostly at night so I really don't need to worry.

I found a place that has a lot of pallets free so if worse comes to worse I can go there for my lumber. I'm worried about the chemicals they use to treat them.

Yes, I'd like his info!
