I live on 25 acres but can't free range because of my brother's blood thirsty boxer who loves the taste of chicken (or snakes, robins, sparrows, chipmunks, or anything with a pulse). My birds have a small chain link yard already but I would really like to pasture them. I had bought some electric netting in hopes of using it for my poultry but the holes were too large so it is now used for the pigs. I'd really like to find some cheap fencing to give them a lot of space to get some foraging time in.

The fencing really doesn't need to be sturdy because they will only be let out when I am home. Its more to keep them in rather than keep things out. So far I don't have a problem with day predators because of the dogs. The dogs are contained with an invisible fence that is about 50 yards from the coop. So really I just need something that will keep the chickens from flying out and walking into dog territory. I have flighty birds so I probably need 5 or 6 foot fencing. Are there any cheap options?

how big is there area you need to cover??

you know the constustion fenceing that is orange fencing?
it comes in green for your gardens..
you could prob put up some long poles and add that suff.

Yeah, I was thinking about just regular chicken wire and I think this is the best route to take. I just wanted to see if there were any creative and cheap ways (the plastic garden fence is a good idea). I'm going to keep checking craigslist for fencing. I'd like to fence in at least 1/4 acre. I'd really like to get the electric poultry netting but I'd rather save money for an octagon incubator.

Thanks for the input.
