longtime lurker, first time poster.

I have a new small flock of 2mo old ISA browns. Third time I’ve done this. I moved them outside during the day and all seem to be well. When I was bringing them in a few nights ago, I noticed one of them had a very large crop.

Long story short, I got the young hen to burp and vomit up lots of long grass. Well, that continued for one day and then no more grass coming up. It’s been a few days and she developed pretty bad sour crop. It’s large (golf ball sized for a 2mo old) and very full. She throws up for me, barely massaging it now once or twice a day after it fills and gets gassy.

Her spirits seem to be high and she looks healthy, good appetite, perfectly normal poop, active all day. I started Monistat seven cream yesterday morning and no change. I switched over to Monistat 3 suppositories today. Still no change but I just started them.

I don’t know what to do. She seems to be normal other than a big sour crop that is not resolving and possibly getting worse. Lots of gas and bloating in the crop.

What should I do? Stay the course? Is this going to resolve with just a little more antifungal treatment and time?

When my chicken got sour frío, it took her a week of slow recovery. She was lethargic and not eating or drinking, so not much like your case, but I seringed yogurt by her mouth and gave her probiotics to help her. I would recommend doing that if you don’t have anything to specifically treat sour crop. I’ve heard that you should try fasting or limiting the supply of food for a hen with sour crop so her crop has a chance to empty (not for more then 24 hours though) but I don’t know how reliable that is.
