Infected comb?

I noticed that there were some mites on my chickens a few days ago. Today, while I was putting some lice and mite powder through my chickens' feathers, I noticed that my rooster had a yucky 'thing' (don't know what to call it) under the flap of his comb. I applied some antiseptic and anti inflammatory cream on it, and put him to bed. Is it an infected mite bite, or something else? Thank you.

The comb and the wattles are the normal targets for such pecking. Broken toenails or drawn feathers are also common causes of bleeding.

I had something going on like that with my rooster, no external parasites though. I applied betadine, then neosporin and it cleared up in about 10 days.

I managed to get a hold of my Uncle who is a vet and he also recommended betadine! I have put it on his comb. I had to sing ''You Are My Sunshine" to calm him while I did this because he gets really scared when I touch him. I used to do this when I was treating his foot a few years ago, and now it's his favourite song.
