this girl has been in a pen, getting supportive care, with me thinking she just wasnt going to make it for four weeks, the past 7 days things have looked up, she pooped out a plug of rock and straw i think was was stuck in her gizzard, causing all her issues, she has a sock on still to keep her stretched crop up, but the past few days has finally been at a point where she can have food at will, and her crop is emptying just fine every night. i went to change her crop sock a min ago and saw a spot, with crusty yellow, and a lil warm, and a little swollen, right where we injected her to realease the massive amount of air that had leaked under her skin from a ruptured air sack. i hadnt seen anything yesterday or previously, she has no other symptoms, her appetite and energy is fine, and she doesnt pick or seem to be in pain. i flushed the area with clorahexadine, and then put on silver honey gel, as i only have the pain kind of neosporin right now. im going to get some in a moment. im terrified of giving her antibiotics with her crop issues so recently, but im also terrified of the infection. i have Doxycycline 20% powder from mikes falconry supplies. it says give 1 teaspoon per gallon of water for 7 to 10 days. is this good for this type of infection and should i use it or treat another way?

I'm going to stick my neck out and say "no" to the doxy. If this is an infection, it's likely to go no deeper than the outer skin. What I would do is give her a hot compress treatment. That can draw out any infection and clobber it. Find a small square of flannel rag and wet it. Give it about ten seconds in the microwave and test it on the inside of your wrist. When it cools to where it's just this side of burning your skin but still hot, apply it to the festering spot. Hold in place until it cools, maybe ten minutes. Then get a wound salve on it right away. Do it again the next day if it still appears to be festering.
