Infection or virus?

I need more help and advice please, I’m so sorry to keep asking…
The vet has given me injectable clamoxyl (I don’t know the strength) for the three sick hens and liquid clamoxyl for the rest.
The injectable has been drawn up into syringes at a dose of 0.14ml per hen per day, but when I have administered them only 0.09ml is actually injected, the rest stays in the syringe due to the plunger (see photo, top one has been used, bottom hasn’t).
I spoke to the vet and she said just give the oral instead, which she has dosed at 0.5ml per kilo of bird.
The oral Clamoxyl is amoxicillin trihydrate, 250mg/5ml, and I think she is massively under dosing, or am I getting it wrong (poultrydvm says 55 - 200mg po per kg for amoxicillin trihydrate)
Please help….

I would follow the vet's advice or reconsult her.

IF I'm doing my calculations correctly, it seems she's given you the correct dosing.

So I’ve scrambled my brain on this one, can you break it down for me?
If the suspension is 250mg per 5ml that equates to 50mg per ml.
Poultrydvm says
Amoxicillin trihydrate - 55-200 mg/kg PO, SC, IM, IV q4-12 h or 200-1500 mg/L drinking water (B Speer).
The birds weigh 1kg each.
She is saying to give 0.5ml per bird per day
Should they not be having at least 1ml, if not 2?

Call her and ask.

I think you are correct, but my brain is freezing up on me.

@casportpony

I asked earlier and she got really defensive and said the dose was right.
I know my exotic vet in the UK used to get really cross because lots of vets under dose, and unfortunately they don't like being questioned .
I don't want to overdose them, but if they're not getting enough then it's going to be as bad

So I asked the vet again, sent her the poultrydvm link and explained I’m worried, she replied

In this case, I prescribed amoxicillin according to Carpenter´s Exotic Formulary that is a compilation of recent scientific studies and reviews . According to this formulary, the dosage recommended is 15mg/kg/ day for chickens and it was established according to a scientific study.
That dosage 55-200mg/kg isn't present in this formulary.

I’ve never heard of Carpenters, what on earth should I do?

Is there anyone else who can help a befuddled old lady sort the dosing please?

I already tagged casportpony, but others like @Eggcessive or @coach723 might have other suggestions, hard to know.

I can't really tell you what to do and don't necessarily want to go against a Vet's instructions. You have traveled to Lisban and had the birds checked and they are getting some testing.

I have not heard of Carpenter's formulary either, but with you not being in the U.S. that may be what your country uses as a standard? There are many different formularies.

Poultry DVM is a compilation of sources from the Web. That said, I'll share the info from Formularies I have or that I have gathered and saved. These formularies are the ones I would follow myself, again I can't say if that's what you should do, we are not vets.

Do you have enough medication to increase dosing if that's what you choose to do?

Thank you, these are just for amoxicillin though, I have amoxicillin trihydrate which I think doses differently?
Yes I do have enough to increase the dose.
