Would it be possible/recommended to order one of each of a different breed that would not make fertile eggs? Like I know Muscovy can’t breed with other ducks, maybe have one mallard lineage duck, a call duck? Is it a common thing to look for duck eggs that will be born mules? I am unsure- it’s just a theory, but I would love to hatch some eggs and not have to worry about rehoming drakes. I really don’t want fertile eggs.

I think this might be what your asking?
Even if they are Mules they will still act like Drakes and go through all the motions of Breeding....That can't be changed....So you will still run Ito problems if you have too many Drakes....Collect eggs daily and you won't have Ducklings....Or only Leave Momma with a few eggs to hatch....

That makes sense. I understand that if a Drake is being aggressive or harmful I will have to rehome or get more females, whether it is a mule or not. I don’t feel too comfortable eating fertile eggs, and I know it’s silly, but I would just feel better knowing nothing could have come from it. What’s crossed create mules? And what breeds cannot make fertile eggs?

I would love to have the experience of hatching eggs!

You're gonna have to pick between getting to do that and not wanting to eat fertile eggs. If you get a drake so that you can get fertile eggs from your ducks to hatch, he's also going to be fertilizing all the eggs you want to eat.

Even if you get a muscovy drake and a mallard derived hen, the eggs from them would still be fertile and hatch. The babies from the eggs would just be infertile.

If you get mule females, then you can never hatch their eggs.

You can really only have this one way, lol.

Haha it’s okay! It was a confusing question. I would like to order eggs to hatch, preferably eggs that will hatch as mules.

But you did answer my question- I just need to order Muscovy crosses.

The alternative was to order a variety of ducks, all which could not produce viable offspring (so not mules, but no fertilization at all). But this seems like a trickier task.
