Is there anything that I can do to help this little meat bird?

It's crop is inflated and it's struggling to breathe, it's not full of food, but air.

It makes a whistle sound when it breathes and every now and then has a full on fit, I imagine trying to get more air.

The skin around the back end and lower abdomen are very dark pink/red too.

It is 5.5 weeks or so now. Seems to be the only one like this.

He's dirty because we had a ton of rain last week and it was all we could do to keep up with it. We've been layering cardboard in their space to soak up water and give them a dry place to live. The weather here turned cold fast so we haven't been able to let them out on grass for the last couple of weeks.

Oh, and when I held it, it was sort of drooling a somewhat cloudy, mostly transparent liquid. Doesn't have a runny nose

Seems like it was sour crop maybe. Did what I could find online to do, inverted him, massaged his crop, he threw up a bit, but died in my hands. 😥

Oh no, sorry for your loss. I know little about meat chickens, but it did sound like a puffy crop. Did it smell bad or sour when the crop contents came up? I don’t recommend turning them down and making them vomit, since they can aspirate and choke. If you see this in the future, here is a good article about crops:

Thank you, I really appreciate it. And thanks for the article, just finished reading it. Lots to digest...no pun intended.😕

Yes, it was sour and sort of syrupy, if that makes sense.
