I have no idea of the safety of those. Typically the issue is that it’s a wad of something other than poop getting stuck, like a ball of twine or grass fibers, so I feel like a stool softener wouldn’t necessarily help even if it was chicken-safe. If there is anything coming out at all (even if not the impaction material) then I would just continue with what you’re doing and make sure she stays hydrated.
she does have stuff coming out. mostly green diarrhea with some urates. yesterday mostly urates because she did not eat two days prior. she is back to eating and she hasn't stopped drinking. Still lethargic, but more alert. she actually ran yesterday when we took her outside. It wasn't far and other than that she mostly stood around but, she seems to be turning a corner. She ate some eggs and crumbles this morning. I'd like to get her back out with the others, but I'm not too concerned about her being stressed inside. My chickens come in when it's really hot or really cold, they actually line up at my back door like little ducks and ask to come inside in extreme weather, so she is very familiar and comfortable inside. Still... I don't want her to have a hard time getting her pecking order back.
Sounds like she's improving! If she's been outside unsupervised then she may have passed the impaction or at least some of it already. It can really take a lot out of a chicken, and they are often really picky eaters for some time even after things are moving through better. Movement is good for backed up digestive systems, so if she's not picked on and continues to drink well and eat a bit when outside, then being out with the others for at least some time each day is definitely a good idea. Being around other foraging chickens can also spur a bit more eating in some individuals.
