Hi Everyone,
We have recently acquired 2 female call ducks not from a great situation. They are healthy but incredibly timid and afraid of everyone and mostly everything. We wanted to get 2 more but unfortunately in our area of So Cal nobody has any. We can order a male and female but I wasn’t sure if one drake to 3 females was ok. Any help would be so appreciated!!

One drake with 3 hens would be fine, I have mine in pairs.

Yes, so I’ve heard 😂. Any suggestions for helping the 2 we rescued be less nervous?
Be around them when they are eating, and feed them from your hand, those are the best tips I know of, and they will get better with time

I know this thread hasnt really been talked about in a while, but I thought id say that because you never got an answer

We play moderately loud rock music when we feed them and sit in chairs 8-10 ft from them as they eat. The music seems to calm them a bit and cover any inadvertent sudden noises that may startle them.
We've had kids chase and try to catch them a couple times and they flew off (they can easily fly hundreds of yards at a time) but ours know where "home" is because of the music, feeding (morning and twilight) and we put them up in a large duck house we built for all our ducks IF yours don't know "home" yet, it you spook them and especially chase them, you could easily lose them.
