Hi everyone,
I don't actually have an eggbound hen, just wanting to find out all I can, just in case.
I know that you are supposed to give them Tums, but how do you give them, and how many? How often? How on earth do you give them a bath? If you have to reach in the vent, how do you do that?
I would appriciate any info anyone can give me.
Thanks!

somewhere in here we posted a remedy that imcludes a very warm bottom bath for no less than 20 mins I know a long time to hold a chicken in warm water but like people it relaxes the muscles and then vaseline or veg oil was placed around vent area and chicken was turned back out and it passed, interesting article..you cannot remove it unless it is right close to vent. If you look at another thread in this area , it is in there.

I think I might have an eggbound hen and I am wondering the same things. I have done everything but stick my finger up her vent to see if there is an egg. I hesitate to do that because I'm not sure what I should attempt to do about it if there is an egg. Do I try to take it out? What if it is broken? Will I hurt her more if I try that?
She is getting extra TLC (bathing, baths, butt check, her own apartment, etc.) but still seems a bit swollen in her lower back, abdomen area and appears to be doing abdominal excercises at times. When she first grew sick , I did find small maggots (I think) around her bottom area but no more since I washed them all away. I see no abrasion or cuts.
She is regaining stamina and might be closer to joining the flock. Hopefully the egg is dissolving. This does happen, right?
