INFO ON GOATS? I NEED HELP WITH THIS PROJECT...

Silly Chick is right wethers are male goats that have been castrated. They can still be trained to do things such as pull carts and such and fun to watch them. I would rather watch my goats than tv anymore.

Thanks, SillyChicken, that is some good info. I am putting all my questions' answers into my notebook. This will help me when I need to consider housing, what breeds, which individual to buy, and what their pens should be. I am really valuing all of this information... it is not a waste of y'all's time at all. Thank you all so much! I am really starting to convince my parents, too. My mom is all for goats, but my dad is more reluctant. So, one down, one to go...

If I convinced my dad to let me have a dog, then I should be able to convince him to let me get two goats. It probably wont be hard when he realizes that mom is all for goats. At least I hope...

Ok, I have some new questions:
1) What should I look for when buying a milking doe?

2) How do I know when I am being cheated by the seller?

3) Can I turn wild grass into hay?

4) How much will 2-3 does cost monthly?

5) Can a doe live off of grass and minerals for the spring and summer?

6) Should I buy a goat off of craigslist, or from an auction?

7) Will 2-3 goats have a 70' by 70' pen completely barren by the end of the year or sooner? Should the pen be bigger? 100' by 100' ?

8) Do does have to have seperate stalls?

9) What should the goats' bedding be?

10) How much will 2-3 goats neccesities be each month?

I would like to thank all the people whom have answered my questions in the past pages. Please keep the answers coming.
Thanks!
Hannah.

Ok, I have some new questions:
1) What should I look for when buying a milking doe?
There are several things to look for in a Doe. The most important are milking records and her udders. Also her conformity how she looks and stands. Does she conform to her breed standards.

2) How do I know when I am being cheated by the seller? There are several ways but gut feeling is a good one that should always be followed.

3) Can I turn wild grass into hay? Yes it is possible. I Let my yard grow a little taller even then let it dry out and store it for fodder.

4) How much will 2-3 does cost monthly? This one is hard to calculate.

5) Can a doe live off of grass and minerals for the spring and summer? Yes as long as there is plenty of brass and shrubs to browse.

6) Should I buy a goat off of craigslist, or from an auction? No never these are generally people culls ones they dont want or do not conform to there standards. Buy from a reputable dealer.

7) Will 2-3 goats have a 70' by 70' pen completely barren by the end of the year or sooner? Should the pen be bigger? 100' by 100' ? 100 by 100 would be better.

8) Do does have to have seperate stalls? Not necessarily but it is handy for when they are kidding.

9) What should the goats' bedding be? I buy bags of Pine shavings from Tractor Supply Company.

10) How much will 2-3 goats neccesities be each month? That all depends.

Your Welcome.

I really hope you get your goats and that your dad softens up ;) When you get them make sure to post pictures!! A lot of pictures :)

Ha ha! There is no way anyone would keep me from posting pictures. If I get goats (when I get goats

) I will make sure to post a million bazillion pictures of them! I'll post a gazillion pics of them! I really cant wait to ask my dad once I have the money saved up! My plan is is he sees how much money I have saved up, he might see how hard I've worked and let me get some goats. He has given in before, he'll give in again! Goats are NOT bad! And when he sees that I can take care of them, he should soften even more! I hope...
