Info on the The Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities ?

Is The Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities only concerned with saving rare breeds of poultry, waterfowl, turkeys, and guineas?

I think the Java is a breed that deserves to be saved. I like the Auburn Java and that variety is not even recognized by the American Poultry Association. It is very difficult to find Auburn Javas. The White Java is not recognized either. The black and the mottled are recognized and more available. That is another issue, that the breeds or varieties recognized by the APA are more likely to survive. I have read that the White Java once recognized by the APA but was dropped from the list. I think people were confusing it with the White Plymouth Rock.

You are in luck, not only does the SPPA include some dedicated Java breeders, but 2 of the recent newsletters have contained articles about the Auburn Java and its history.

That is great. I will have to see if I can get the newsletters.

Does SPPA only focus on rare breeds?

Poultry antiquities, but in practice this includes turkeys, waterfowl and less-common standard-bred heritage poultry as well as the truly obscure and unusual older breeds. Breeds which need help and have some historical significance. It also serves as a de facto breed club for older breeds and landrace poultry that have no club and are not in the APA/ ABA standard.
