What a great way to teach all sorts of things to your students! Love the idea of keeping a coop at school!
As for a rooster, there are several things to take into consideration. Not all of them are friendly, raising them up from a baby chicks may help though.
Also, for introduction to your existing flock, take it slowly. Start with a look but can't touch approach!

Hi! Welcome to BYC! I think adding a rooster would enrich your program with the students, but as others have said, not all roosters are nice. Starting with a rooster chick is no guarantee. I am raising two right now and one is as sweet as he can be at 6 months old. The other cockerel, at the same age, is a constant threat. We are working very closely with him to save him. There are some really good articles on here about roosters. Make a search of the articles by typing the key word "rooster" in the search box. I particularly recommend the one by @TwoCrows and another by @Shadrach.

You shouldn't have any issues adding a rooster. Make sure he is friendly (some roosters are aggressive toward humans and will attack you or kids) and that you have at least 8 hens so the rooster doesn't over mate a few.
