Hello, I am very interested in starting a type of meat bird production for the area where I live. Here poultry(mainly chicken) has rose in price and many people are looking for better ways to supply themselves.
I am interested in being able to learn how other chicken/cornish cross meat producers do or have done to perform a succesful facility. I would like to know how I can be able to produce my own chicks, breed the parents, etc.
I am confused though because I have done research and have seen threads here on how cornish crosses are/can be bred together to lay eggs of cornish crosses. I heard there is a procedure taken to do this and if anyone would know how this is done and could help me out I would be very appreciative as it would be a great help. If anyone can tell their success story or any story on producing your own meat bird facility, i would love to hear it out..........................................

After doing research I have found out that there is a way to produce cornish crosses, it is by obtaining the breeding stock lines from Aviagen. Does anyone know how this works and how much it costs to purchase these lines? Is there a way to be able to produce these lines yourself? and if so how?

Thank you.

Cornish chickens are bred with other breeds, usually rocks to make cornish crosses, but unless you have years to work on hybrids and want to maintain 3 seperate lines to produce..... well I'm just not that devoted.

It sounds like you want to do this commericially instead of a small backyard flock? In that case you'll either need alotta chicks, or to order eggs... where are you located?

Well honestly I have read in another forum and have read on people starting their own commercial broiler facility, and they use the same cornish crosses for breeding. I am sure there is someone here in the forum who should know more on this and would appreciate the assistance.
thank you.
