I have my 11 Red-Rock 41/2 month old pullets in a wooden building that is covered with tar-paper. It is about 8x10. It can go to -20 here in Maine and I want to put an infrared light over their roost for warmth. What size should I get? The roof is low. Also is it okay to leave a regular bulb on all night?

I use heat lamps that have a protective lid over the bulb to keep the chickens from getting burned if they get too close. I get them from the feed store. I also use a red heat bulb from Home Depot. White lights can make it difficult for the girls to sleep and they can start to pick at each other. I have two coops one is a shed type with one heat lamp and the other is an old trailer body that I converted and I have 2 in there. All of the lamps I hang from the ceiling and have them about waist high from the ground.
