Last night 2 of our chicks got out and were attacked by the dogs. We lost one, Oreo, and Cookie was injured. I have her inside and have checked her. There's no puncture wounds and don't seem to be any broken bones or swelling but she is limping. I have given her some warm oatmeal mixed with chick starter and she happily gobbled quite a bit and is drinking water. She also has some dirt because they free range in a pen so we brought some in for her. She refuses to stay in her box, and cries and throws a fit if you don't hold and cuddle her. Does it sound like a severe injury? What else should I be doing for her?

She sounds like she will be ok. Just double check for swelling or redness. If you can't find anything, you can play it safe and keep her in for a couple of days, or put her back out. If she is limping, i would just play it safe and keep her in for a little while longer for her comfort and your enjoyment. Hope it works out.

Haha. I love chickens that "love" you back.

We had an inside chicken. It was a little "rooster" (little siblings

) that my little brother named buddy because he was the nice "rooster" and was gonna be his best pal forever! (quote) eventually she had to go back outside our dog isn't much into chickens, and my puppy is too into them.

When I was 6 we got a roo in our pullet chicks my mom let me keep him cuz we lived on a farm. Red would follow me everywhere and when I was 7 my dad came home he was a trucker and saw Red attack my brother for tormenting me so my dad butchered him when I wasn't around. But that roo was a better pet than any other I have ever had.

Aww that's sad. I have a 16lbs duck named red, but he's not really a people poultry. He's shy, which rubs off on his ducks, so they are shy too.
