Hello, I have a young Polish chick who got away from a coyote (no bites, but a small section of feathers are bare around her hip), and that one leg doesn't work at all (no response to putting her foot down (curls back)). I've tried to see if she will stand on the good leg, but she won't, she just falls to the ground. I put her in a small box cut to hold her upright and stablised the hurt leg only with vetwrap right now. Not sure if I should try a splint, since she won't even try to stand. She never tries to get up on her other leg though, which I seems strange. I had another hen who broke her leg and I splinted it, but she hopped around really good on one leg. It's been a week and no improvement. Can anyone suggest what else I can do? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!!

I'm not at home right now, but when I get there I will post a video. Thanks for the suggestion!

Here is the new box I put her in. I did end up cutting the right side of the box to allow her to eat and drink without moving. I thought I got video of that too, but apparently is has not downloaded from my phone yet.

Okay, good! You may want to feel her leg and see if she broke it! We had a chicken that was fine and then we noticed that she was limping so I grabbed her and felt her leg to see if it was broken and it was!

I couldn't upload the video because it was too large. Sadly she passed away last night. ☹ I think there must have been some internal problems or spine issues or both. I couldn't feel any broken legs (I had a hen once who's leg I splinted, she did great for the rest of her short life (killed by neighbor dogs), even though her leg didn't ever work right and she hopped around on one leg up and down our property which is very steep.) But this little girl wouldn't even try to stand (though she was eating and drinking), so somehow I think the coyote damaged her spine. Thank you for the input though, I greatly appreciate it.

Oh I’m so very sorry! You did what you could!
